Starlink Mini Power Setup Questions

Who is using their Starlink mini as part of a navigation equipment set. As a alternative for Garmin

I just did last week. Downloaded some tracks and maps I needed when we had a reroute and no other connection. You still need GPS enabled devices, but smart phones all have that and we use an iPad with the cell option for the GPS chip, but don’t pay for the cellular data.

I’m also noodling on dropping my inReach subscription, as long as I can keep the extraction insurance. May not though. The SOS button is the ultimate SHTF cry for help. Thing is seems a lot of the time, if you have a serious problem, but not full on disaster, you need to get some mechanical help (eg, Matt’s Off-Road Recovery or the equivalent) and the inReach seems like a difficult way to reach the resources vs calling them, but you lose the one-button connection to the SAR folks. I’m gonna see how things go for a while before I decide. May end up paying for both. Will be curious to see how this all develops . . .

Am I on the right track with a LTE Android tablet, mapping app, and the starlink mini?

You can also use the gps receivers in the mini instead of the built in ones on the device.
