Yeah, with how many miles you had on you FJ in no time, good idea for the diesel. Let us know how you like it--looks like a solid choice!

Depends on what your pain threshold is....Go to fourbyfourclub.com and eurotruck-importers.com to get a sense of part prices.

One thing I didn't like about owning a grey market truck was that I couldn't get full coverage insurance...that may not be an issue for you.

Is 85 going to be grey market? One is for sale locally; the seller discloses many details about the truck but doesn't mention anything about that. It is a 280GE, but I just don't know much about these.

Anything before 2002 is a grey market car.

Now keep in mind that it doesn't mean its illegal, it just means that it wasn't imported by Mercedes Benz, so MB dealers may or may not service it. Probably not an issue for you. They may also not order any parts for you..again may not be an issue for you. You may also discover that your insurance company will not offer full coverage...this may not be important for you also.

Just things to keep in mind. Lots of guys own them and wouldn't have it any other way. I had one...

When buying a grey market car, do your due diligence about federalization.

Thanks for the info. I guess grey market doesn't matter much at this stage. I probably wouldn't take to a dealer unless truly desperate.

I think any Mercedes dealer is going to give you a blank stare if you ask them to work on it.

For any federalization/importation questions on a specific rig, you'll want to track down Rena Lee. Her # can be found on pointedthree.com.
