Steel "spare" wheel for permanent use?

I'm pondering building another set of wheels/tires using the Toyota black steel "spare" wheels and 255/85/16s.

I noticed that on that 16"x7" steel black spare there is a sticker that says "for temporary use only". Now, does that mean that there is something about the wheel that makes it unsuitable for everyday highway/off road use?

I've seen ExPo members with a similar setup. How are the Toyota steel spares working out? Any issues? Thanks:victory:

No issues here. I run the 4runner spares. Little different looking, but size and backspacing seem to be identical to the tacoma spares.
They are a bit heavy so in the long run my goal to keep getting 18mpg on the highway may lead me to go back to a stock alloy, but for the last year and a half I've loved them!

I can't imagine any problems. Many of the so-called "spare" wheels that Toyota used in the past were the same exact wheels that came on the trucks with lower trim packages (i.e. standard, deluxe vs. SR5). Should be just fine to run them. Biggest complaint that I have read is that people say they weigh a lot more than aluminum alloys.
