Hi guys

Not sure if this is the right section or where I should post this...

I just read this on the german panamerican forum: this HZJ79 camper from Germany was stolen in Las Vegas! I just can't believe HOW and WHO would steal a car that can't be sold or used as parts car in the USA!? Can any of you guys have his eyes open and maybe help this guys? Sucks pretty much...

Thanks

Cheers from Peru with our HZJ75

THAT'S HORRIBLE!!! I've always loved the 79 series Landcruisers! Good luck! I hope that you find her, and the people get what they have coming!

Joy ride. I bet it's stripped of stuff, pawned and trashed in the desert already.

That is sad for these people just trying to see the world. I can't stand these thieves. I hope they get caught and the Germans get their car back.

It would probably be worthwhile posting it in the Toyota Section, Ham Section and NV section -- hopefully it won't tee anyone off.

Posted this in these places;

Good luck, hopefully it's not being dismantled. Something similar happened here, a Taco shack was stolen during Christmas, and it turned up in NV some time later.. There is hope.

Sadly, it's a "Landcruiser" to anyone "not in the know" (and depeding on the model could say NOTHING to indicate anything other then "Landcruiser"... so they could, potentially, just slap another USDM LC Vin on it and go about fooling the Feds for years. Hopefully NOT though, hopefully someone will spot it cause that is really crappy tp read about and probably indescribable to the German couple going through it.

Cheers

Very sorry to hear this story but I doubt it is on US soil now. An educated guess is that a vehicle like this would only have any value or be useful in a foreign country. A significant percentage of vehicles stolen in the US are never recovered. Many are smuggled out of the US and we all know what countries they go to. If you think you can slap some plates on this and go in expo style think again. I don't think it would be too smart and not worth doing. Strip it for parts? Who has one and needs parts in and around Vegas, nobody. Unlikely $$$ to be made and too risky. Last but not least is the Crack heads, but too organized for that. If the keys were left in it and it was left outside a shop and rob, maybe.

thanks guys... I also don't know the german couple but a friend of mine met them and said they are very nice. Just trying to help them since they don't know all the ih8mud and expedition portal forums etc.

Mexico doesn't know the 1HZ either, it would not be smart to export it there. And with cargo ships I guess it's not easy. I remember how many papers and how many inspections I went through to ship my HZJ75 from europe to Canada and from Panama to Colombia!
I would guess the US customs are even more strict and there is a high risk it gets caught? Who would take this risk?

I still think it's in the USA and will be parted out, although there is almost no market for it.. .but most thieves are also not the smartest ;)

legitimate cars go thru paperwork. STOLEN cars get shipped out all the time.
