While not a grand overland adventure by comparison, we are quite happy to report on our recent adventure this past week. We had planned a four day trip to Rodanthe, Hatteras Island, NC and while we did prepare for rain, we didn't really expect Storm Julia to hit during our stay (Sept 19-22). We stayed right on the Pamlico Sound, a few yards away from the water. Our first day was pleasant and sunny, but by sunset, Julia hit full force for the next 8-10 hours. Through heavy rain, wind, thunder, and lightning, we hung in there. Surprisingly, we stayed dry and the dogs were comfortable despite the thunder.

Pics were taken just before and after the storm broke the following morning. The dogs, all three of them, were happy to finally be able go outside!
The following evening also brought more rain, as we went through another bought of heavy rain and winds for over 6 hours. But we had plenty of sunny days to take the dogs swimming, so all in all, it was a successful trip.
So while this report is not terribly exciting, it was great to be able to test out our gear under such conditions and feel confident knowing we can make future plans knowing that if storms hit, we'll be okay (of course, we will try to avoid such situations)!
