First stuck for me and the Sportsmobile. I was following four other rigs on a snow run and the packed snow had no traction for me. Twice I slid off the road while on a darn near straight flat road!... Tried getting out with the front and rear air lockers engaged but just spun the wheels. Luckily, even with a 9,000 pound vehicle, it was an easy winch out with the 16,500 pound winch. The other rigs had multiple stucks later that day. Lots of digging!

It may not look it, but I was high centered here on this pile of rocks. It took a lot of shoveling of rocks out from underneath the TC skid and some creative ingenuity to get me out of this one.

56k Warning

These all happened on our new years trip to the desert. We were in Ocotillo Wells on our way to Superstition. With a misjudgment on my part I decided to be the first one to enter what I now call the bowl of death. It did seem very intimidating until I tried to get out. What I thought looked like a dirt hillside turned out to be very soft sand. After about 30 attempts to get out we finally gave up and knew the only way I was getting out was with some help.

First the Jeep gave it a shot....

Then a Mazda..

Then A Ford...

And then we finally made a Jeep-Ford-Toyota train and finally got out : D

The next stuck was on our way back from Superstition (at night) when we came across Baja Bug that had plunged into a huge gap that had formed from the rains. The gap was 10 feet deep and located on a normal trail and would have been very hard to see. When we arrived kids were crying and everyone on the scene seemed very distraught. So we though we would help. We hooked up the tow chain to the Jeep and with the help of about 6 guys lifting we were able to recover the Bug and amazingly it was still running.

The group of about 8 Baja Bug asked us to escort them back to the man road because they had gotten lots and wanted to avoid any more cracks that might have opened up.. but we took a wrong turn and the trail began to get difficult so we decided to back track a little bit and the I ended up getting stuck again.

Lets just say it was a fun day.

I had attempted every area on that slope and that spot allowed me to get up the furthest. If I had gone to the left I would have lost momentum from hitting the lip.
You can see I got a full truck length over the previous attempt to the left. Look at the tire tracks.
As far as I know it was a nice (International Scout). The owner was great and said I was not the only person from San Diego he has pulled out... and also a nice comment that this would have made great Toyota commercial  but I still have a rescue to stuck ratio of 4:3

internatinoal scout if you tell him its a ford he may have just left u there.

if u ever see that guy agin tell im its a TERA hell be impresed.

From that last pic it looks doable but i can see getting stuck not much for run room and your rig isent light.

Correction you are right it is an International Scout. I did not know what it was at first because I do not see many around. Also considering they stopped making them before I was born :hehe: but it was a very impressive rig and was very glad to have it pull me out.

I did try that line you pointed out because I thought the same thing as you. It was better than most spots but I was still not able to get a high as I needed to and a recovery was more difficult on that side. I don't think I did too bad considering I was loaded with tons of gear and still mostly stock.

I know I would not have attempted this if I was on my own but what could I have done to get myself out if I had been? Sand Ladders, a winch with barried tire at the top? Or just keep on digging to see if I hit the hard stuff...
