Here we are roughing-in the new rack for the Suburban. My friend Ryan Dean can weld!...
The rack is sized to carry full sheets of plywood, luggage, skis, whatever...
Built with heavy-wall aluminum tubing, it is very light, yet strong with ten widely spaced pads rivet-nutted to the roof.

Ended up mounting front light bar at bottom front of rack...it was making an awful low-pitch howling at highway speeds, amplified by the black-board sized roof.

I know what you mean, JSC, once the rack was on, the list of things we "should" take with us began to grow.
Also,
thanks for your service, Marine.IMG_20150913_170440029_HDR.jpg

Right on Brother. I am digging that roof rack and the fact that you can 1) load a ton of stuff on it...because... well, just because and 2) If you put a platform up there you can drag a cooler up and drink beers and have a view :) Nice Burb.

Jackson your set up looks way :Wow1:cool. I like the way you loaded that rack up and look like you are ready to go far and wide with your gear. Have fun and keep us updated. Cheers Chilli...:)

New Years Day

Ran down to the Carrizo Plains National Monument on New Years Day.
Wide-open spaces, dirt roads, almost deserted.
In fact, the wife tried tuning-in some radio stations just to see if Armageddon had begun without us...:yikes:

Installed a Viar 88P compressor and some home-made pvc air tanks this week. Put a quick-disconnect for the airline down near the end of the running board. Already had a switch and relay for it. Good little compressor for $58 bucks. lately I noticed the 30 watt solar panel hasn't maintained the batteries at a healthy level. Looks like I need more watts! (or maybe more sun...)

Really like your Burb. Are your running boards custom made? They look beefier than the stock ones. I have been looking for and not finding some kind of step/rock rail/slider to protect the rockers. Also being on dirt every day, it would help to keep dirt/mud off the sides of the truck. If those are n0t stock, how do they attach to the frame or body?

You may very well know more about solar than I do... we just started experimenting with the harbor freight kit this past summer to try to understand how it all works. On your solar set up consider parking out of the shade, and providing a more flat panel direction toward the sky. The panel needs the most unobstructed sun for the longest period of the day possible.
