Yes i can get my hands on a 2500 but how can i see what gearbox it has ?

Does any one have a clue about speed ? how fast will i be going att 2500 rpm ?

Your stuck with the 4L80E automatic transmission and an NV241. The transmission has a torque converter lockup (very nice) and they are very stout IF service is maintained and it doesn't get overheated. A transmission temperature gauge is cheap insurance. As for the NV241 transfer case they are also very strong. They are a chain drive unit with a slip yoke style output in an aluminum housing.

I'm guessing 80mph @ 2500rpm with 4.10 gears.
 
I 2nd the 2500 with 8lugs. Don't be fooled by a 6 lug 2500 it's just a 1500 with a 14 bolt semi-floating rearend.
 
Petersen's 4 Wheel and Offroad magazine did a build on a red 1 ton Chevy pickup with IFS. They went through a lot of aftermarket parts to make it stronger. You might find the article archived on their site 4wheeloffroad.com.
