Suction Cups?

I just got these Mad Dog racks that are held onto glass via 4 suction cups per hook. It is very well made, and I have them in the back window of the cab to support my trek poles and packs and I also have them inside the topper to hold a shovel and an axe. They seem to work really well, stick like glue, and seem to be a long term purchase.

My question to you is this: how can I keep them ON the glass when the temps changes etc.? I have never seen a suction cup hold indefinitely, and sure do not want to see the axe or shovel let loose with the pups in the back!

I have thought about putting the mount on the glass, and while secured, putting a thin bead of silicone overlapping the glass and the suction cup. Would this keep the vacuum longer?

I am not hesitant to installing them permanently, but like the idea of being able to remove them if needed. If you were to mount them forever, how would you do it?

Any ideas are welcome!

Other then adding a glue or silicone, there is nothing that can keep a suction cup on with high (no suction cup is 100%) reliability through hot/cold weather changes. The only exception that I have seen is a mechanically actuated suction device like this type of thing:

They are designed for use in showers and stay on through hot and cold changes.

Why not just get a solid mount gun rack? My brother in law has one on his '06 to hold his fishing poles.

Or even better yet some Quick Fist clamps?

These are a gun rack type-a thing.
Quick fists are GREAT too - but the question remains on how to mount them to a fiberglass topper.

The slide in type gun racks do not fit well and inspire zero confidence.

I do not want to bolt anything to the fiberglass for obvious reasons, so the glass suction cup route seems logical.

Have you thought about mounting them along the bed rails?

Bed rails are already in use - I use the movable clamps lot and often need to reposition them.

The picture in the original post is a really good system- if I could just be assured of their staying in place.

Left field idea: Is the inside of your canopy carpeted? If not, you probably could go to a boat repair shop and get them to build you something out of fiberglass.
