This may help.

Thanks for the pic.
The part 40167 in the shackle is different from the one in the narrow version of the FG38 (like ours).

We have just found a lead with some FG538 diagrams and are investigating it.
Will keep you guys posted.

If it works, we could resume our trip within one month... :smiley_drive:
Thanks for your support.

What are flares ? I checked google translate but could not understand. Is it a part ? A system ?

Our FG538 (yes, narrow version) has a payload of 2000kg and total allowed max weight of 4600 kg.
We currently weight less than 3900 kg... for the time beeing... with old worn bushings !

We just found a lead with diagrams and parts numbers. The sky brightens... let's hope for the best... :costumed-smiley-007 but still prepaired to have to take down things to measure them !

Thanks to everybody for your kind help and support.

PS: when we have sorted out the sourcing of parts, and hopefully also the repair manual, I will feel comfortable recommending the FG538.

Robert, you can see what I mean in my PM about the Japanese imports being smaller trucks than our Australian models. This is why they need the flares. They still run the same or similar diffs but the cabs are so much narrower. Notice how there is only a single glovebox instead of a double and how the middle passenger seat is hard up against the driver's seat instead of a 200mm gap. John. Just noticed the Auto hubs on the import too.

MYSTERY Solved...

The dealer sent me wrong parts.
John, since this is embarrassing for the dealer, could we delete this post ?

I have finally been able to find parts and will get them in 2 to 3 weeks...
I will repost useful data then.
Thanks
Robert

Just to answer the OP's post about the suspension on the Japanese FG538s. It is the same as the Aussie trucks, as I've sent springs bushes, shackles etc up from Australia to PNG for trucks I run there. The axles are narrower than the Aussie versions, but apart from that there's not a lot of difference in the running gear. I'm not absolutely sure but I think the white dual cab truck in the picture above is one I bought for PNG a while ago, if not, it's its twin, the box across the tray is a winch and the one in the corner is the winch controls. The Japanese versions run a 4.6L diesel, normally aspirated.
