Tent is free standing but has a sleeve to attach it to the back of your vehicle. Sleep in your rig for security but then freely enter/exit it into the stand up height tent (to dress, use potti, and wash up, cook and eat meals).

Comes with air mattress. $299.99

Way cheaper than a roof top tent (better gas mileage too, in these days of pricey) and you can leave it set up behind in camp when you want to go off on your rig for adventure.

Ours is an old Cabela’s model (no longer sold) that take a lot longer to put up than these new ones,4CAB90A2-7521-4450-B508-7092125C5932.jpeg

Yeah, I have a Leer camp shell on my Sierra, and we slept in the back last year. This looks like a nice addition. The RTT route is as you say, pay premium dollars for the privilege of worse fuel economy. It might be different if I frequented deserts where there were scorpions and snakes, but then I can just sleep in the 6 and a half foot bed under the canopy. I like to keep everything tucked inside.
