SUV tent on lifted Suburban

Has anyone used a SUV tent on a lifted suv? I'm looking at one from Cabelas to use on my Suburban. Did you run into any problems? It would be used on a V series Suburban with a 5" lift and 35's.

will be interesting to know otherwise

I called another company sports tentz(??) They said theirs would fit a roofline up to 80". I think you and I have about the same set up. 5-6" lift and 35's. They also said anything higher and the base of the tent nearest the back of the truck would not set on the ground properly.

I have looked into the roof top tents since they deploy quickly and keep you up off the ground. The only issue I can see there is the length of the legs or ladder to the ground.
Some of the tents do not require a ground support leg but you still have a ladder that folds out. Even if the ladder couldnt reach the ground, a light weight step stool could be the solution. (Base of ladder onto step stool like platform). Not a perfect solution, but a solution none the less.

Here is similar to what I am going to search for. I am not sure which direction the tent will deploy, I am thinking forward over the hood with a small extension to the side to cover the ladder and provide shelter to the front two passenger doors. Thought is that any gear loaded to the roof top platform would be at the back and more easily accessed. A permanent ladder from the bumper to the roof would make access easy.

I just purchased a similar unit to use with my trailer. I think your setup would be too high, as the back is designed to fit a stock height vehicle. I still have to fine tune the connection points.

It is a really quick alternative though....probably sets up in like 10 minutes....and it weighs considerably less then the tent I use of the back now.

We used a Napier brand SUV tent on my Tacoma with a raised campershell. The truck had 255/85/16's on it, and about 3" of lift in the back. I had no problems. Obviously, your set up would be a bit taller, but with the raised roof of my shell, it might not be that much of a difference.

For the record. I like this setup, but the first gen of these tents had poles that you had to connect and slide through the sleeves and it made for a lengthy set up and take down. The new ones go up much faster.
