Sway bars on an 80?

When you wheel like slee does, I am sure it will. The only problem that it causes AFAIK is the extra stress it puts on the remaining bolt and mount on the side that has one removed.

One guy on mud tweaked his mounts running 37s so he just reinforced that mount.....

[:BROKENRECORD SMILIE] LOL. Maybe you should explain this? :coffeedrink: I kid, I kid.

Anyway...The real problem with running the front sways while off road on an 80 series is that the flex will tear off the mounts to the axle. When this happens, the end of the sway bar takes out the brake line. I have seen this several times including a memorable time at the base of Cadillac Hill on the Rubicon. It is worth rewelding the mounts (easiest) or making new mounts (better) with a quick release pin. The original mount was just stuck there with a spot weld, and not up to Toyota's usual overbuilt standard.

agreed...
on all the 80's I lift I cut off the stock front sway bar mounts and fully weld on custom HD ones, I refuse to ship out a lifted truck with out this mod. it doesn't take much to break these off

I put brand new axles on a 97 cruiser and was surprised to see that the new axles had thicker say bar mounts that were fully welded on all 4 sides, seems Toyota knew that there was a problem and fixed it:victory:
