Sweety's R20 Terrano II

You are going to put a turbo gauge, and what's the other one? Engine Temp, battery Volt?

I was thinking of getting another engine temp gauge, but i'm having a little "debate" with myself on where to connect the sensor... any ideas? :coffee:

I haven't touched this new center console yet, but if i'm getting another gauge, i'll probably be doing the same as you did!

Nice work!

I'm fitting a volt gauges as well as the boost gauge as over the years i've had alternators under charge & one over charge so like to keep an eye on things charging wise. On mine being a TDI there is 2 temp sensors fitted to the thermostat housing one is for the temp gauge & the other sensor is for the ECU, if I remember right I think it's the sensor with a single wire that's for the gauge but not sure if the older TD has the same set up but will find out for you if you want to fit a second temp gauge as you should be able to use the factory sensor
I did this centre dash mod on my old Terrano & found having the gauges high up where the vents were to be perfect for me

You are correct. It's the one with a single wire. The other 2 are 1 for the AC i guess and i don't know what the third is for...

Very cool stuff. I'm liking the Terrano threads popping up around here.

Thanks:D I really like the R20 Terrano as on road handling is great infact I used to have a SWB like Pipeline's (the facelift version with twin headlights) & could chuck it around on the road like a sports car but off road it came into it's own & got places in just 2WD where Discovery's had to use diff lock etc Sadly this one will be the last one i'll own as they stopped making them in 2007 & mine was one of the last into the UK but the engines are almost bomb proof & are gear driven so no timing belts or chains to be changed. Some companies are fitting these engines into the newer Navara D40's & Pathfinder's as the 2.5L engines suffer lots of bad problems so that could be what I go for next & fit my 2.7TDI lump out of the Terrano as it's still very low mileage now only covered 61K
Anyway gave the dash a rub down with rubbing compound & then a good polish up, I also added some carbon wrap to where the gauges go & got the gauges fitted. Need to get the gear stick surround out tomorrow & start painting that so it all matches & then can get everything refitted

Sadly there is almost no off the shelf off road parts for the R20 Terrano but i'm planing on doing a 1.5" or 2" suspension lift but will have to use spacers on the rear coil springs & just wind up the front torsion bars to match any higher & the front drive shaft CV joints either break or wear at a silly speed (IFS) A few have managed to fit a D22 Navara snorkel so that maybe on the to do list & larger tyres prob 31" will be going on once I wear down the cooper AT3's (need to drive harder to wear them out faster lol) & maybe a 2" body lift but that will depend partly on my wife as she isn't as tall as me:coffeedrink: but as with anything plans can change so nothing fully set in stone

Now all the photo's i've put up have been of my truck clean & shiny partly due to not really off roading this one & never taking any photo's of it dirty when it has been in the mud so here's a couple of my old 1999 R20 Terrano SWB in action & I still regret selling it & miss it badly

My advice to you is, use the torsion bars only to level the front with the rear.

I had 2cm spacers on the back springs and had to crank the torsion bars a second time and that alwais worried me because of the CV's, the front got alot harder, the screw's that fasten the upper triangle came loose twice... remember that after cranking the torsion bars, you have to fix the camber by loosening those same screw's and putting small spacers between the triangle arm and the chassi, the problem is they are too short!

You probably know this, but i usually use the top bump stop of the upper triangles as reference to crank the TB... it's best to leave at least 1 1/2 fingers of distance between the triangle and the bump stop.

After that and if you still want to give it a little more ground clearance, i suggest a small bodylift, in my case and for a 31" tire, probably 2cm will do just fine... above that and we will have to deal with alot more stuff... (break lines, steering colun, radiator suport, etc etc...)

IF the wheels have the original offset, cranking the TB's plus using original tires (non retreaded) is usually enough!

(i'm sorry if my english isn't perfect or if i use weird words lol lolol but i haven't written like this in a few years.... last time was in school! :snorkel: )

I should be fine with a 1.5" as the camber doesn't change much but will shim it if needed. Doing a body lift on a Terrano isn't as bad as most are Pipeline you don't have to worry about the brake lines as Nissan coiled them in the engine pay so the metal line stretch easily enough for a 2" body lift, the steering column just needs slackening off whilst you do the lift & tightened up again after it, The radiator just needs 2 lower brackets made for the top of the radiator to slam panel fixing & the bottom part of the fan cowling trimmed away. The hardest part is lifting the bumpers up to meat the body, at the rear bost unbolt the bumper brackets & move them up 2" & weld them to the chassis, at the front some make up brackets or use the factory ones but drill a lower hole in the bracket & move it up.
Your English is good mate don't worry about it & it's nice having another Terrano owner on here & i'm sure we'll give each other ideas over time:sombrero:

Well that's the centre dash & gear stick surround finally finished & fitted:wings: sadly the new boost gauge under reads which i'm not really happy about. Anyway here's a photo

Ahhh electric's have been playing up, every time i've went to start the engine all of the doors have locked which it shouldn't do & the only time i've known this to happen is when the battery is almost flat but it wasn't as the truck was starting fine. As the Terrano's are known to suffer from the battery clamps cracking leading to starting issues etc, I disconnected the battery & checked the clamps carefully for any cracks which I didn't have so cleaned the battery posts & clamps. Took the 2 small wires off the + clamp & cleaned up the spade terminals then covered everything in vaseline to keep the damp out & threatened the truck it would get part ex'ed in for a Land Rover lol connected the battery back up & everything is back to working as it should so not sure if it's been the cleaning or if the NAT's security system has reset itself

Well the locking of the doors has struck again:( ran some thick wire to the 2 smaller wire that come off the positive battery clamp & used a jump lead from the negative post to the body & it was still the same so that rules out a bad earth & problems with the positive battery clamp (I hope) called in at the place I got the battery from 13 months ago & he tested the battery & it's down by 24% on the cold cranking amps so that's looking like the possible cause so a new battery is on order (warranty claim) & picking it up tomorrow & fingers crossed that is the cause for this issue

Replaced the positive battery clamp today & the charging rate to the battery has went up a bit to 14.30v which i'm happy about. Cleaned up all the earth's I could find under the bonnet but sadly still got the door locking problem, been told about a way of poss resetting the central locking unit so going to try that tomorrow but really running out of ideas now

Well after many hours checking the central door locking motors & a great deal of the wiring I think at long last i've found the cause for the door locking on their own. I'm sure it's the micro switch on the drivers door lock so have unplugged it from the wiring loom & over the last couple of days i've not been locked in or out of the truck & when driving it's not locking the doors when it feels like it any more. I might see if I can get a second hand micro switch for the door lock so the alarm can be activated via the door lock again but if not i'm not going to worry as the alarm still works via the key fob

I hate messing with the electronics/wire's... meh!

Glad you found out what was wrong with it!

I'm the same as you here, but got a second fusebox wired in when I changed the battery terminal just got to wire in the tow sockets now. So far so good & haven't had any more auto door locking:wings:

Not done any updates for a while, when we have a day out in the country side we normally put the stove & kettle etc in a plastic box & take it with use so we can have a cuppa but it always rattles which drives me mad so wanted a better solution which would also be quicker to set up. After a quick look on here I thought i'd have a go at making a little chuck box to house everything we need for a day trip but could also be used if we go away & use our small 4 man dome tent
All closed up

Opened up

Top left is a draw for tea, coffee, sugar & spoons, below that is a little cupboard to store 3-4 water bottles which saves them sliding around the back of the truck. Pleased with how it came out.

Last week I got around to wiring in my tow bar sockets at last so we are now on the hunt for a caravan but a friend has mentioned there is a trailer at his unit that I might be able to have but don't know what size it is or the condition it's in yet nor have I mentioned it to my wife yet:oops:
Noticed the beginning of this week the truck wasn't getting up tp it's normal running temp & the heaters weren't as hot so suspected that the thermostat had poss stuck open a bit so ordered a new thermostat & fitted it on Thursday. The truck is now getting up to running temp really fast & the heaters are lovely & hot again:)
Next things to be done is a full service, underseal the body & chassis & some painting of the suspension parts to freshen them up ready for the car show season as we've been asked to display ours again this year:)
