Tacoma 05+ Suspension Upgrade Help

Another proponent of the OME setup. I shopped coil-over offerings and "fixed height" sytems (i.e., OME) and think it the best all 'round solution.

I'm running 885s and N140S up front with Dakars (less the third leaf) and OME dampers in back with 265/70/17 BFGs on OE 17" Sport alloys. When I get my ARB bumper and winch I'll swap the 885s for 886s to support the extra weight.

Oh, and no vibes here. :)

Just recently I helped a friend install a Camburg front lift with OME rear. He's running the SAW front coilovers with the Camburg top plates, Camburg upper arms, and then OME rear with OME rear shocks. The ride is excellent. He's running the new BFG MT in a 33.5" or so size (metric 17s) on AR teflon wheels. It rides and drives great. I'm thinking the total cost was over your $1800 budget. You could get with Jacque at Toyota of Dallas, TRD parts for you, etc... for an exact current price. I'm extremely jealous of the ride compared to my complete OME kit on my 100 series Land Cruiser. I can't find a picture of it that I can post (his rear bumper is sort of a secret at the moment) of it right now.

I put an OME under my truck with 886s in the front. No steel bumpers, and after over a month I'm still at ~3" of lift at each corner. I hope it sags and settles soon 'cause it rides rough without the weight!

As far as vibes, I do get some minor thrumming between 30-40 at its worst. It smoothens out above that. I was going to put in angled axle shims but I was told to drive it first and add them if I feel its necessary. I think I'll go without 'cause breaking a shim would put a damper on any day.

Let me warn you: compressing 886 coils is a bear, and getting them in the truck is almost as bad! At full droop there still wasn't enough room to get them in so we used breaker bars to force some sag to the LCAs. I suggested disassembling the spindles but was told "easy said than done."

One thing of notice is that the rear could droop an extra 4 inches if the shocks didn't pull them up 4 inches. You'd need to spec out the right shocks, but Bilstein 5150s (or I think someone mentioned 5125? I don't know) or adjustables might allow that. That's a lot better articulation!

Don't forget extended brake lines for the rear. It's not needed but you will have that benefit if you go with non-OME extra-droopy rear shocks.

Yea - I wouldn't run the 886's unless you plan on bumper, winch, skid plates, etc. They are stiffer and longer than the 885's, and don't drive that well with a stock front end.

But otherwise everyone is right on - the OME is a great product at the right price point.
