Tacoma A/C issue

My A/C isn't working, not that I use it much. Still.

Symptoms:
-no +12v at compressor clutch
-clutch solenoid test okay with +12v from battery

FSM says to check continuity on the pushbutton switch, if it fails replace the switch. so I replaced the switch to the tune of $50, and nothing changed. FWIW the continuity of the new switch tests the same as the old. Boo.

is the blower motor working? and just the compressor isnt kicking in? or does none of it work?

did you check all the fuses under the hood and dash?

pull the radio bezel - this is for a 4runner, but should be close on yours: pop off the a/c control bezel by pulling the knobs off and pulling it off, careful not to break the clips, remove two screws holding radio bezel in place, pull shifter trim off, pull radio bezel out and disconnect wires to clock, switches, etc. check wires on the back side of the control unit for chafing, etc.

My guess is low charge. I'll bet there is a pressure switch on the system that looks for a minimum pressure in order to enable the compressor to run. No minimum pressure, no compressor enable.

Good possibility, 10 year old truck. Question is how do I check this, and can I fix it? Will the OBD tell me anything?

Then does that mean I have a leak? It was blowing pretty cold last summer.

Definitely check the pressure. I just had this problem on my suburban, everything was checking out, but the compressor would not come on. I went and paid $20 at a local shop, they checked the pressure, when they found that I had no Freon, they put some leak detection dye in and found that the compressor had a leak on a seam. I bought a new compressor, installed it and had them refill the freon and oil, and now I have Ice Cold AC just in time for the summer heat.

Also my friend who is a Toyota Tech, says it is very unlikely that it is the wiring, check the fuses to be sure, but he is saying he would put money on the freon pressure being too low.

Good Luck!
