Tacoma Back up Camera

I have a 2009 Taco that has a back up camera in the tailgate. I am prepping the truck for a camper (slide in) that will require me to remove the tailgate--and lose the camera. Has anyone ever moved the camera to the bumper? If so, how? I really, really love the camera-- and would use it even more with a camper. Help!

I have just recently moved mine to the bumper. I have a CBI bumper with a swing away for the spare so I had lost any view since it was looking rifgt at the spare. I simply removed mine, wiring and all from the tailgate and velcroed it right on top of the bumper. Excess wire is just zip tied up under the bumper. Unless your looking for it you would not even notice it sitting on top of the bumper. There is quite a bit of length to the wiring harness so you can play with it and see where you like it at if you want to try something different. Ron

Thanks for the responses....but I guess I should've stated that I am a bit mechanically challenged. The article from tundra talked about welding wires and all I could see was a Smoked Taco... Regardless, I love the Taco back up camera so much, I'm gonna try! I'm also going to suggest to toyota that they just need to mount the camera on the bumper.

Umm... the writeup talked about soldering wires, which is a big difference from welding. Maybe you should be careful about tackling this if you're not looking for a mechanical challenge. It doesn't look hard, but it will take a certain comfort level wrenching on your truck.

This is awesome, and I actually think I can do this! I love your blog, too. We are getting ready to customize our Phoenix pop up in December. I've spent several years in the military, so am looking forward to seeing my own country! Thanks so much!
