Tacoma Deaver 11 Pack ***Feeler***

since we're on the topic,,, i have deaver 11's also and dont carry a normal load like RTT or anything,,, its a stiff ride on the street over the little imperfections on blacktop roads. but loaded up for camping and i can literally drive off road just like i was unloaded. i can go about as fast i want to and it just soaks it all up, leaving my lesser sprung buddies in the dust trying not to bottom out they're rigs or shake themselves silly on washboard.

these packs are stiff on the street if your usually unloaded but really come alive off road, no matter what ya got in the bed.

Cool, sounds like you have some ideas in mind. What are you planning to do? AAL's? or arch changes?

I was thinking of adding in the Pro-Comp AAL since they are ridiculously stiff for an AAL, and having the entire spring packs arch changed to accommodate the weight. Kurt do you have a better suggestion?

Hmmm, can't say I've seen anyone that has done something similar. Keep us posted for sure if you do go that route, I'd be interested to hear how it works out in the end.

The most commons options are to run available OME AAL springs, the D5XL or the D29XL. The D29XL was built for the 2nd gen Tacoma, but you can re-drill the spring pin hole and run it in the CS046. I've been using the D5XL , both in my old Taco, my current 04' and quite a few customer sets too. It works out nicely, fits decent in the pack and doesn't require re-drilling. Late last year I installed a set of the re-drilled D29XL/CS046's (following TangoBlue's suggestion) in an 03' DC w/shell, drawers, and some pretty heavy gear in the back. Right off the bat he was roughly 1/2" taller than my D5XL/CS046 combo (04' DC w/Bakkie Rack/RTT and ~200 lbs of gear in the back). I figure we were pretty close weight wise. I haven't had a chance to weight them side by side again but I'd expect them to be very close after his has settled a bit. Other options include re-arching (I'm not a fan as in my experience it doesn't seem to last all that long) or having a custom AAL made. We have a couple of killer local spring shops that can handle projects like this (AAA Spring & Best Deal Spring). While this is a great option, given the success many of us are seeing with the OME options, I've not played around much with those.

Are you changing your shocks too? I've been extremely pleased with N85's (which I subsequently replaced with the new 60062's when they became available). Both see far better fitted for the heavy loads as compared to the N94. I ran the N94's on the first rendition of OME on my 96' ExCab, it rode great day to day but when loaded did feel a bit under dampened. I later changed to the N85's which seemed just barely too firm but completely tolerable day to day. With the AAL they seem like a perfect fit. If your taller than you are shorter, such as with some aftermarket extended shackles or a lift block or spring relocation block, you might try the N76. TangoBlue is running them on his taller than normal setup, fwiw they are 2" longer (both collapsed/extended) than the N85 specs, so they really only should be used in the tall setups.

I like the idea of the D29XL... In fact I like it almost better than the Pro-comp idea. From the eyeball, it was looking like they would need to be re arched to fit them in the dakar pack... I just might go the D29XL route! Time to do some thinking.

As for shocks, I am running the 5100's and am not too happy with them. I have greasable shackles, they are 1.5" longer than stock and should provide about 3/4" of lift over the OEM shackles and was thinking of the N94's for the softerish ride with the harshness of the Pro-comps. However, If I swap out to the D29XL's I might want to go with your suggestion.
