Tacoma or four Runner

Agreed, living with the pain on a daily basis blows, but I prefer to feel the pain instead of being drugged up and drooling on myself as the alternative. Personally, I am holding off on surgery again until I can no longer bring myself to get out of bed in the morning. At the end of the day I would prefer to have a bad back over bad knees or a bad hip.

Yep, have been dealing with it since I was 14-15? Blew it out helping my father move rail road ties. Same here, no drugs for me, and trying to push off surgery as long as I can...PT has helped a bunch. But everyone is different.

Hush on that bad hip thing, my right one has been bugging me lately. :D

It is so subjective...most everyone hates the Tacoma for seating. I have a bad back, herniated L5, vert was cracked and slipped forward. Prefer the lower position of the Taco over the more upright position of my Trooper. Proof is in the pudding, last year put 30K miles on the Taco, and only 3K on the Trooper.

I liked my two first gens and the two second gen Tacos I had, my opinion on the third gen is not good and has nothing to do with seating position. I didn't comment on the seating position cuz as you mentioned it's very subjective since we are all built differently. I didn't really have a problem with the seating position in the taco.

Any pain sucks, but I have learned the more I move the better I feel. An surgery is the very last option for me. Would even try drugs before being cut on and I can't stand pills. Had to have knee surgery a few years back and they gave me Percocet for the pain. I had to cut them in half and they still knocked me out for 5 hours at a time.

ironically... I have a similar herniation and the more upright position of my F350 is much easier on my back than my Tacoma's or 4Runners...

In regards to the best vehicle of the two as others have suggested I would agree that you need to get some extended seat time behind both in order to truly know. But before that you need to decide which generation vehicle you're considering and go from there. I do think that the area of your back injury plays a role as well when it comes to which seating position might be more suitable for your comfort.

try an inversion table... worked wonders for me.... that and being on a biologic that reduces inflammation...

I don't like sitting on bar stools either, go figure! :D

Probably should drive a F1....

couldn't do it. I sold my IS300, in large part, because I couldn't drive it w/o being in pain. Seating position was comfortable, but killed me. I still struggle in most cars, though not nearly as much as a number of years ago.

All of our work trucks were like sitting on barstools, it was such a relief to jump in my Toyota at the end of the day. My Trooper kills me...one of the reasons I rarely drive it.

Standing doesn't bother it, why I have a job where I stand...couldn't work a desk that is for sure, as there was a time I couldn't sit for more than 20-30 minutes. But now my hip is starting to bug me, from all those years of well...standing. :p Sucks getting old!

Thank you, I know this is a wide question. I have to have a fusion in my neck and have 5 or 6 herniated discs. I know this is a personal preference as well.

I recently had C5-7 fused, and my Tacoma isn't any less comfortable for me now than it was when I bought it new back in '09. In addition to this truck, I've also owned an '06 4Runner and a '17 4Runner. The 4Runners are nice, and IMO the back seats are more comfortable than the Tacomas. While not as important for you, it could make a difference for your passengers. I really liked the '17 T4R, and I had the choice of keeping it or the Taco in my divorce; I was more attached to the Tacoma, but the 4R was a great road tripper. The 4R may hold the edge just a bit in comfort, but the Tacoma is no slouch. For me, Toyota seats are more comfortable than most domestics.

Best of luck with your surgeries and your car shopping.
