Tacoma towing question

I am thinking of trading in my Nissan Titan on a new Toyota Tacoma crew cab 4x4. For those of you that tow with these trucks, how do they do towing any sort of weight. I have to tow a tandem axle trailer 4 days a week for work that weighs around 3500-4000 lbs. Would this truck have any problem doing this with rear air bags and receiver hitch installed? Also, what packages should I look for and stay away from on the Tacoma?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

They are certainly rated to tow that much weight but I would be thinking twice about doing it 4 days a week if it were my truck and anything but a work truck.
That being said, I'm curious how it would do. So go for it and let us know how it holds up.

Seriously though, I pulled a 5000lb trailer/car combo and it handled it just fine but it was only one 250 mile trip.

I would agree. If you are pulling this from point A to point B once in the morning and once in the evening, fine. But for tugging it all day long, four days a week, I'd get something bigger than a Tacoma. It will pull it fine but I think you'd be putting dog years on the truck, wearing it out before it's time. My concern would be the transmission. You can get the tow package to help with cooling but still, I'd look at the F150 XL. I think they pull more and the low end XL is relatively inexpensive.

I did though manage to pull an 8k skid steer for a relatively short distance.

That’s a lot of weight to be pulling on a regular basis – more than half its life will be hooked to a trailer. If it were me, I might be leaning towards the Tundra. The optional tow package on the automatic Tacomas include: additional coolers for the transmission and engine oil, an upgrade 130A alternator, 7 pin light/brake connector plug, and Class IV receiver hitch. I believe you can get the tow package on the access cab or the double cab and sport or off-road model but it has to be the V6 with an automatic transmission.

The Tacoma will certainly handle that, I would say get the factory towing package for sure. However as others have said if your planning on pulling it around all the time you might look for something a bit larger. I've towed something in the neighborhood of 6k with my Tacoma with no issues, was still able to get up to 70 on the interstate just fine.

get a tundra if your towing that much. Tacomas are great, but kinda like a kid pulling a lead weight up a hill when towing

If I was me I would stick with a V-8 powered Full size. You will regret pulling that muck weight with a Tacoma after a little while. The truck is not designed to be under that strain that often. It will do it, but you will wear out parts much faster and in the end be disappointed by the dismal performance.

I guess I'll stick with my V8 Titan then and put the money into accessories, anyways it's paid for. Thanks for all the info guys.
