Tacotay's 02 DC build...

I'd like to start by saying there are a bunch of rigs on here I envy. Costman and boxrocket to name a couple. This is my third Tacoma. My first vehicle was an 06 single cab 2wd. Second one was a 2000 extended cab which Toyota bought back from me due to the frame rust warranty (best thing that could have ever happened). Now I purchased an 02 DC TRD. Finally have a DC!!!

So my goal with this rig is to make a great everyday driver but an even better expo rig. I bought the rig stock as a rock besides the spray in bed liner and lower rocker panel bed liner sprayed.

Just got the rig a couple weeks ago but here is a list of stuff I've picked up so far.

Have-
All-pro 80" Rock sliders
All-pro pack rack
Arctec quart crate (ultimate trail)
Jerry can
Weather proof tote for tools and gear
Huskavarna chain saw ($75)
And a boat load of tools from harbor freight (only thing in my budget right now)

On the list to have-
Lift (haven't decided yet)
33's on 15" black steelies
Bumper
Winch
Rear bumper/ tire carrier
RTT
Fridge freezer
On board shower
Awning
And the list goes on...

Here are some pictures of the rig.

Thought I would do a write up of one of my favorite additions so far. I wanted to start by saying the reason why I was interested in a piece of gear, was I countlessly spilled oil and fluids in my tool box all over my tools and I was sick of it. Did some research for a product that was self contained, tough and organized (I'm a little OCD). I came across the Artec Industries Ultimate Trail Quart Crate. A couple weeks ago I got this bad boy in the mail and immediately went to ace hardware to pick up some stainless self tapping sheet metal screws. Found the right spot in the bed of my truck, made a few measurements and screwed it down. Unsure of where I wanted it's final location I only put 2 screws in it. Surprisingly enough the day after I went out wheeling and it didn't budge. Went through a lot of washboard and bumpy roads, I was expecting the screws not hold but sure enough they did. I do think once I find it's permanent home in the bed I will just drill 4 holes and use stainless bolts with lock nuts. The one thing I wasn't sure about was if it would rust or not, being it came uncoated. After a light rain one night I noticed a few light surface rust spots on the quart crate. I decided to pull it off and take it to get powder coated. Figured I like it so much why not get it finished the right way instead of just rattle canning it. Couldn't be happier with this thing. I keep 4 quarts of motor oil, 1 quart of power steering fluid, 1 quart of chain saw blade oil, 1 quart of brake fluid, 1 quart of gear oil, a gallon of anti-freeze and a very carefully placed chainsaw 2 stroke mix. I've been getting tons of questions and compliments on this thing in the few short weeks i've had it, including a few of my buddies who work at All-Pro Offroad. My experience with the company has been nothing but outstanding, super friendly and informational about their products. Check them out.

It's a Planoe Sportsman. Picked it up for like $30. Water resistant and lockable. Not bad I wouldn't mind replacing it with a more stout case some day like a pelican or equivalent, but for now it works.

You caught me! I really don't really have any complaints for the price.

Kobalt makes a storage box that fits between the wheel wells and is flush with the top of the bed rails; had it on my last truck. There was enough room to fit a jerry can on either side of the box as well which was cool. Would definitely recommend it! Don't feel like you have to go pelican to fit in with the cool crowd on this site ;).

That's a good idea! The only think is I want to be able to take it out when I want too. Which I guess I could still do with that

Started a new project the other day and finally finished today. I got the idea for this fly rod case was from my buddy Costman33. He has a full length rod case but because of my pack rack on my truck I had to make a half rod case. It's pretty easy to break my fly rod down in half, still rigged up and throw it in the case. I added a locking system to the ammo can today and super happy with how it came out.

Heatshrink around the u-bolts? If so, clever idea ;)
I'd personally move everything over to the passenger side in case of any type accident. Rods and tubing are lined right up with the driver. Slim chance I know, but better to be safe than sorry!

Yes sir heat shrink on U-bolts. Good idea on moving it. May put it in the middle so it wouldn't hit me or my old lady. Rather it hit me than her lol. I've got a harder head.
