I need some ideas for chains for my tailgate on my Bantam civilian. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Retail parts stores (AutoZone, Napa, etc), sell a cable style replacement chain. Its actually a nice coated cable with spring retained clips on at least one end. Can be easily adapted to just about any trailer application. Might be available in several lengths too.

We use rubber coated lanyard. You could use rubber coated wire and crimp the ends into loops.

attachment points

What type of hardware do you suggest for attachment points? I like the idea of a coated chain.

thanks,

First let me congratulate you on your purchase. It just goes to show that a mid 40's trailer is still 100% functional after 60 something years of use.

Pictures of the trailer would help so we can see how the original chains were fitted and make suggestions on how you can attach new ones.

Depending on your local climate zinc coated hardware may work well. In very damp wet conditions stainless is good.

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. I was encouraged to buy this after visiting this site on a daily basis for a long time. I told my wife it is for pinestraw and trips to Home Depo. We all know it isn't for that.

These are the best pictures I have at the moment.

I'm planning to repaint Zambizi silver and attempting to smooth out some of the panels and doing some type of protection layer in the bed.

Bantams have tailgates?

The civilian Bantam T3-C has a tailgate. The WWII military Bantam T-3 and Willys MBT trailers do not, nor do the Korean era M100 and Vietnam era M416.

See photos in the link below my signature.

There are a number of parts houses that supply parts for vintage Willys, I would try them. I doubt that the tailgate chains are any different than those on my '47 CJ2A...
