I'm in the process of making prep/cook tables into my tailgate and tire carrier on my Samurai and was wondering what everyone is using for lighting.
I'm sure I can get by with a headlamp but I figure there has to be a nice LED lighting solution.
led strip lights can be attached just about anywhere, most of them have adhesive backing which I have found to not be very sticky. So you need to find alternative ways of helping them stay attached. But they do put out a considerable amount of light with minimal current draw.
This particular strip floods the entire area with good quality light (they are not the harsh bluish color of so-called cool-white LED light products).
An entire 300-LED strip (~16 feet) draws about 2 amps for what appears to be about 1500-2000 lumens of light, but cut to shorter lengths the current draw obviously goes down considerably.
I also have some home-built LED clamp lights I made using 12V LED MR16 GU5.3 tracklight lamps. These work great clipped to the edge of the back hatch of my BII while cooking in the back area.
No idea on the XO crew. Are you wanting permanent light or temporary/movable light. One episode of Expedition Overland they had an led light mounted to the pole of a tire carrier.
