I'm sure the tailgate tray is a nice and well built peice, but 200 bones is alittle steep for this kid.

Lift and tires coming soon...

I should have stated that the tray is 'like-new' and I scored it in the for sale section (Justin tipped me off to the listing). That said, I was saving up to purchase a new one from ORTT as they make quality products that, I believe, are worth the money.

The tailgate tray *is* a nice piece. When I tested it for the Overland Journal, I had a static weight of 40 pounds on it (40 lb dumbell), placed at one of the outer corners. The table flexed, but nothing like you would expect.

Then of course there is the fact that it is designed and built in the USA . . . not many products are (as I'm sure everyone knows). Fit and finish is great, and it's incredibly convenient around the camp. I couldn't build one of the same quality for the price (and I like to build my own stuff...).

Tony, looks great and I'm glad you're using it for the very purpose it should be used for. If you're ever down in Houston, let me know. Apparently Houston was named the best tailgating city in the NFL by Forbes Magazine. ;)

Good idea

A tailgate shelf was one of the first things I made for my LJ. It get's used almost as much as the tailgate handle.....

A favorite use is when loading the cooler at the gas pumps, it keeps fumbling to a minimum.

I used stainless for my shelf and was lucky to have my buddy who welds for a living, say "let me TIG it at work" and it will be sweet.. I put a lip around the edge so things won't roll off when unlevel and used square tube to space the shelf out a little when closed, so air can get to the tailgate vents.

I have the ORTT shelf on my JK.
I added 4 more mounting screws at the 4 outermost corners.
I havent seen how much it will hold with all 8 screws but i have no flex when being used.
Ill post a pic if there is anybody interested.

Thanks for the tips, I will use them if I put a pony keg of ABA on there (it appears that I will need it if I head down to Houston <g>).

For the folks that have built their own, let's see 'em! (perhaps one of you can start a new thread.)

Today, I am going to put on a tailgate stop to ensure that I don't spill any beer!
