talk me out of a ktm 640 adventure

I've had two. While they are great bikes be prepaired to visit the dentist!!!!

They WILL rattle your teeth loose. But that being said there is no other bike like it. No matter what the KLR or XR guys say(and I've had a few KLRs), the 640 is a monster in the dirt but not so good on the street.

If your going to use it to get to trails that are a few mile away it's the perfect bike. But anything longer than 50 miles and you'll be screaming to get off.

If the dirt and a few roads is your quest than look at the 525's or 530's. They have a much larger oil capacity than the 450's and have the balls to ride on the road.

Sorry not trying to burst you bubble, but no one else mentioned it.

I won't talk you out of it. I just picked up a 2001 KTM 640 Adventure last week. :wings:

Two days in a row I rode out to Borrego and did Grapevine Canyon. Bike is awesome on both street and dirt.

An XR650R is just about the only other bike out there that you could turn into something similar. Those 640's are sweet, but I prefer the Honda. Mostly because it's a lot smoother.

Currently set up for canyon carving with motard wheels and tars. This thing is such a ************** ride. Also have the original dirt wheels and tars with D606s. Twenty minutes and I am ready to hit the dirt...

If you haven't ridden one, I strongly suggest you ride one for an extended time if possible. The vibrations are pretty bad even by thumper standards. We don't call it the washing machine for nothing.

That being said, if you can get past the vibes it's a great dual purpose bike but not a single track or technical trail bike for a noob.

I think the enduros are shakier than the Adv's. The vibration bothers me for the first 15 minutes of a street ride. Then everything goes numb and I feel fine.

I think it feels more like a paint shaker than a washing machine. I'd be cool with a washing machine...

Its a great bike handles well on and off the road, reliable, easy to work on for the most part.. I used to do adventure riding and loved it.. (BMW12GS) The big bike was fun as hell so that thing will be a blast! Rode one with 45k miles on it and felt great and the owner only did normal maintenance..

This is going back 20+ years, but I think that company prepped Audis for Buffum...did a lot of Mits work...built Hyundais for Choinere. I knew several of those guys when I lived in VT. I was a road racer. All the racers knew each other, no matter the type of racing.

How's the bike? Looks like I am trading mine for a Suzuki DRZ SM. I am selling the bike as an ensduro. So, if you want a SM setup for your Adv, I have everything you need...
