Tall jacks vs adjustable RTT rack

So my trailer already had a RTT rack welded up when I bought it

My RTT has an annex and I need some height to make it work (top of my rack is 39” from the ground

Rather than cut off the welded setup currently in place I was thinking of just making the the trailer height adjustable with tall jacks such as the cheap one from HF

anyone use tall jacks vs a telescoping RTT rack?
It’s probably more stable and less money

So you want to lift it what, maybe 26-30”?

It could work if you can get enough travel in a Jack.

I wouldn’t be as worried about tip-over as the previous response, but I would figure out how to mount the jacks rigidly to the frame sides and not have them pivot. I think you might lose some stability if you rely on a single pin through each pivot... those things are just inherently wobbly, but welding or bolting the tubes to your corner uprights are probably very strong.

I’m hoping with the proper size pin/bolt it’ll be solid

my plan was to weld for these onto the trailer frame

They will work, but as you go higher each little wobble starts to feel a lot bigger. My experience has been that they are usually a little loose to allow for easy alignment of the pin. I’m sure you won’t have any significant issues. Lots of construction sign trailers and similar stuff just use 4 cheap corner jacks to stabilize, and the wind from an 80 MPH big rig on the front of a 6x8 sign is probably more load than you’ll ever see. It’s just a question of how it will feel. The farther you can spread the jacks out the happier you will be.

I decided to go for it. Running a 5 degree opposing angle front and back and seems like it would push everything up and against itself so it’s not wobbly

more pix soon
