Teardrop Overhaul

My wife and I have been interested in Teardrops for sometime now. I found one that looked promising back in July and we brought it home. It is small, a 4 by 8, and fits the track of the Jeep nicely. As you can see in the first pic, it needed some enhancements for offroad travel......

Two months later, it looks like this.

We took a short camping trip this past weekend and really enjoyed the trailer. I still have work to get it ready for the fall, the galley needs some storage built in.

Cool; about time you introduced it....

Mirtes and I wondered if you headed out with all that rain we had. I almost suggested that we go out and look for you. Then it rained some more and I opened a beer.

How did it do? Was Teri comfy? How did you like getting dressed while laying in bed? (you get used to it)

One of the many things to love about a Teardrop is the ability to customize to each owners' personality and purpose. Enjoy!

I spent more time working on it to get it trail ready than I anticipated. We camped two nights at Tate Branch on the Tallulah River. The trailer did well, it is a perfect size for the Jeep and Terri. I get up before light, got dressed outside the trailer one morning, inside the next while it was raining.

Thanks Mark. The plan was to put the gazebo next to the trailer but the permanent picnic table prevented that position. So we kinda garaged it, worked out with the rain we had that night and early the next day.

Terri is swamped at work, I may try to get out next weekend.

I have our various gps coordinates on Dave's forum in the planning area ---- a few members have pm'd and we've got a couple of beers to share...
It would be a hoot if you could come up to Julian Price on the BRP on Friday/Saturday the 13th/14th.

I'm giving it serious thought. I'm just worn out on campground adventures.

Not so much a campground as it is a parking spot next to a lake...
One of the most beautiful spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway though. I've stopped there dozens of times in all seasons just to freak on the view and take pictures.

Nice trailer. I love the Teardrops. Not sure what type of suspension that one has but what did you do to the suspension to raise it up? And what size tire are those on there. Love to see pics of the inside.

Thanks,

Benny.

I am looking at a used Little Guy Silver Shadow with the same type of idea that you have. Did you change the fenders or just the tires? Wondering how difficult to change fenders. I am interested in what you have planned, mine would just be a National Park and forest road cruiser. Hilldweller weigh in here, you have good ideas and grasp of the potential issues. Cheers

It is a torsion axle. I used a lift from Dexter Axle to raise it 2.5". The tires are 235/75R15. The combination of the tires and lift gave the trailer an additional 4" of ground clearance.

The fenders are the original 11" wide. They are mounted to the body with screws. I didn't want to change out the fenders if it wasn't necessary. I plan on easy to moderate trail use with the majority of trails being forest service roads.
