Terra Grapplers G2 E vs XL load rating

Hey guys, I have been lurking here for such a long time, I probably need to start with a thanks for all the stuff I've learned.

Anyhow, I know there was been a ton of tire discussions for the LR3, I've read most of them. I currently run 265/65 r18 and want to stay there, no rubbing, etc... For the next tire, I want to move to a All-terrain tire and I think I've settled on the Grappler G2. Mainly because they make the size I want in a XL rating. And an E rating for that matter, which is why I am here to seek advice.

The Grappler E rating version is about $40 more per tire and has a much lower warranty than the same sized grappler in an XL rating. I currently run a SL tire which has served me fine, but I recently started towing a travel trailer with the LR3, which pulls great btw, so I need to upgrade.

Given the same tire has both options, what are the pros and cons? Is E rating overkill? Is XL fine and will the ride quality be any different?

Thanks guys

I have been running the LT 285/60R18 E 123S rated grapplers, and plan to transition to the G2 next time though. Not running 65's though. I just hit their web site, and they have seriously cut down from a bunch to 2 the 18" options on the Terra Grapplers. It looks like they'll phase out the TG for the G2-- this would be the size I'd go for... LT285/60R18 E 122/119S or. Usually I go for the more tread depth.. This *285/60R18 120S probably be a good choice, You'll lose a lot of tread with the XL *285/60R18 120S

It seems like the XL might be overkill to me. The E has been fine for me. I imagine the XL will be a big harder of a ride. The "E" rated tires are still 10 Ply tires.

Hey thanks for the reply. The 265/65 is just about an inch thinner than the 285/60. I read some conflicting posts about whether or not the 285/60 rub or not. The 265s never have. Have you ever had any issues?

As far as XL vs E, the XL is the cheaper, not quite as strong option. So I just wasn't sure the more expensive E load was worth it.
