Nice story and pictures. I haven't thought about that area of Texas for a while. I rode that Twisted Sisters loop about 10 years ago on my old Honda CB125 and camped at Lost Maples State Park. That was one of only a few trips I took in Texas even though I lived there for almost half my life. A truly beautiful area of the state.

Lot of nice pictures and a good story.
Please remember to tread lightly, those families you saw most likely don’t want their only access to be torn up. I say this as someone who has lived on a single access dirt road. It’s not fun to have to go pull Mom out of the ruts left by a 4x4 when she is trying to get home.
