... and on to unknown roads!
Our scouting trip started as the Hill Country Trip drew to a close. We said our goodbyes to our friends in the morning, and left the Caverns of Sonora. Our route lay to the south and to the west.
The skies were cloudy, and we were under constant threat of a downpour throughout the trip, but never suffered more than a light drizzle. The first section was paved, and we sped through the oilfeild territory, watching the hills get bigger and bigger.
We turned off of the pavement shortly after the bustling metropolis of Juno, TX (if you had blinked, you'd have missed it)
We meandered through the valleys and into an area that suffered from a recent wildfire. The overcast skies and scorched earth rendered a post apocolyptic scene. We wondered when the zombies were going to attack.
We rejoined pavement near the town of Pandale. We knew that we were getting close to the border when we started seeing Border Patrol trucks.
Not a whole lot to Pandale, but it was a pretty area. We could hear the echos of pistol fire as someone nearby shot targets. Apparently the fishing wasn't so good that day according to a local gent. We snapped a couple pictures and headed on toward Pumpville Rd.

A steady dose of beautiful (and quite remote) Texas hills was our reward for our troubles. We decided to scout for a possible camping site for future trips near the Pecos River to the north. We did not find a campsite, but we did find a "beautiful spread," as Ryan put it. Unfortunately a dead end, but thats just how it goes on scouting trips.
On the road again, and running out of fuel...
We completed our journey on the end of a rope (sorry about that Nigel, thanks Ryan!
