Texas M101A2 trailer build

Well, I have been reading, looking An getting ideas on what type Of trailer I want to create!

I have switched my plan so many times that I think I have giving up on planning an have gone to the approach of fly by the seat of my pants instead.

I purchased M101A3 a few yrs back An was gonna make me an overland/expedition Trailer! I had great plans. I am one of these over the top sort of guys an wanted the best of everything An wanted the BEST trailer ever. Well, by the time I started adding up the cost for the things I wanted, I soon realized purchasing a built one would be the same if not cheaper. So I just set on the trailer for a couple of years An did nothing.

I recently got a renewed interest in my project an decided to approach it with a more cost affective approach! An see how cheap I could build it as for as money goes all the while building a quality trailer.

Here are my pictures. I am gonna try an post them chronological an then post as I go.

This is the trailer the day I got, Paid $500 for it. Can’t remember how much it cost to title an get plates but I don’t think it was over $100


And here is all the accessories, the canopy, the gates an the cross members.



Not to long after I got the trailer I got busy on disassembling it so I could clean the frame up an re-paint.




I started some prep work for cleaning rust and priming frame.



Pretty much after this I lost interest An got discouraged an I took a long break! Like 2 yrs I think! I just recently started back up! I will post those pics and an update too! Well I guess the pics will show more! LOL!

Ok so, I started back working on the M101A3 (I think mine may actually be an A2) An got a renewed interest (not sure why but I am going with it ?)

Well due to the sabbatical/vacation or in more common terms just plain lost interest, the time caused me to basically have to start over.

So I re-prepped the frame an started priming an painting.



As you can see from the tub in the background it’s been awhile! I have a little more prep on the trailer An I will prime an paint it.



I cleaned, sanded painted the rims just so they weren’t desert tan. Not gonna keep these, but for now they will do (money saved rt!)

I didn’t break the trailer down as far as I could, mostly because I wanna try an have it complete by fall An I only work on it, on weekends. Also I am trying to stay on the low side financially. I wanna keep it as cheap as possible but still have a solid build! The trailer is in descent shape an the brakes work. I wanna keep it true to military form, brakes, lights (will convert to 12v) but keep all military lighting, all labels An plates.

So that’s where I am to date. Gotta work this weekend so not sure what’s gonna get done, after it’s painted I want to do the wiring. Then off to the tub An it’s restoration! Stay tuned!

It is an a2. A3's are set up to run with hummer, so have the big run flats and a different axle.

Yah, I thot it was an A2 seems like it even says that on some of the ID plates I took off! Thanks for confirming that.

I have been slacking an not done anything in a few days, hope to get on it tomorrow an finish priming it.
