The 2013 Range Rover being driven on the Las Vegas Strip

How 'bout they post a video of them driving their new car on a dirt road instead? Is that really too much to ask for?
That way we won't feel the need to wash off a gallon of stripper oil after watching the video.

Well, I guess if they are truly a nice bunch of guys, then they will understand--and respond appropriately to--the comments in this thread.

Other boards have a Sponsors Forum section...where all the sponsors can post up things like this...as well as post about new products, respond to customer comments/complaints, ask for advice about new products, etc., etc.

I do agree, while we are not sponsors and what they do to support us is immense...we should be so thankful. This is an expedition style website however, I do not go on Yankee/Jets/ Miami Heat forums and support them only to start talking about my beloved Red Sox/ Patriots/ Celtics.

That D130 is pretty swanky. LRLV, just post some pics/vids of that on dirt, then feel free to post whatever you want. I'll sit through an ad, as long as I get to see that thing in action.

Put me down too for wanting to see vids of that D130 in action off the blacktop. It is sweet. I just put it on as my computer background. At least I can say I've got the same tires on my truck. I would love to see it in person or in action off road.

But it doesn't make any sense for them to shoot videos on the Defender as they don't sell those on the lot.
Unless they take the LR4 out WITH the Defender and show how great the new rig is compared to the old stuff, then we would watch the video.
They are in the biz of selling NEW vehicles, and while they have a great service dept that has parts for older Rovers and will work on older Rovers they are in the biz of selling the new stuff.

It would have been nice to see a video of the LR4 doing things we as Expo folks like to do or wish we could do more of, especially as Vegas has a ton of dirt around it to play in. But they can post any video they like and per the rules we can't trash anyone's trip report. Even if we do wish it was the Arizona Strip vs the Vegas Strip.

PS You should see the cool radio rig they bring to the Overland Expo!

Really??? They can post any video they like??? That's pretty interesting. I mean, if I can kick a few bucks to da Expo boys and post videos of me and my gsxr doing donuts and wheelies in the local vacant drive-in parking lot on any sub-forum I want, I might just be willing to do so for $hits and giggles.

Oops, but here we have these forum guidelines:
Post Backcountry and Overland trip reports, events and training

To me, this means post trip reports, events, and training that are either backcountry, or are overland...not on black a$$phalt.
I guess I'll do the right thing and refrain from posting my donuts and wheelies on black @$$phalt on this forum.

See, that wasn't so hard after all.

While we're going over guidelines, perhaps you should review the following:
Family Friendly Content (PG):
A large percentage of our members have families with small children. They should be able to sit and read the forum with their kids without fear of what they will read or see.

1. Language: No foul language, which means anything a reasonable person would not yell out to their grandmother or in a place of worship. The typical four-letter word stuff. Why? It is not that the moderators have any particular issue with foul language, and even use it ourselves on occasion, but this forum is comprised of travelers of all ages and beliefs. Attempting to defeat the language filters will result in one warning and then a 7-day ban, followed by a permanent ban.

Thanks for stirring the hornets nest again. And thanks for the reminder that everything is grotesquely commercialized and all about sales figures, apparently including this forum. I naively thought it was about something else.

Not sure what the debate is about. Basing an opinion on reviews, Range Rover makes a fine vehicle, but I've never test driven one. Since they are well out of my price range, I doubt I ever will.

I've never seen one off road and I'd really like to know about their durability. Not just for an occasional adventure, but long term off road durability. Another concern would be ground clearance. Are there lift options available for the newer models? Unfortunately, most dealerships won't let you keep a vehicle for a day and let you run it over 50 miles of washboard, rocks and sand.

No one is arguing the quality of these vehicles. I looked into a RR Sport back in 2007 and took it on one of their courses (pretty fun). The main debate is about the true identity of this forum--is it ExPo or AdPo?

I see what you're saying, but I've never been to a church that didn't pass around a collection plate. No matter how altruistic the message, the bills still have to be paid. If they pay to sponsor the site, at the very least they should be allowed to show what they're selling.

Well, as I said previously, I have no issues with ads, as they fund the very existence of sites like this. But my issue is with this notion of sponsors being able to do whatever they want. Go ahead and advertise, but do it in accordance with the rules, whether by the letter or spirit.

This site had a very grassroots feel when I signed up years ago and still think it holds true. But I see threads like this popping up and immediately "corporate sellout" comes to mind.

@ Alaska Mike,
Thank you for the note and reaffirmation that this is a family-friendly site. But I think you are mistaken.
From my suspect post, "$hits" should actually be read as "US-hits" since the $ sign is actually shorthand for "US", which once upon a time indicated that our currency was valuable (can you believe it???).
And so, "US-hits" means, literally, "US hits", or "Hits for the people of the good ol' U.S. of A" ("hits" being a good thing in this context).
Also , I guess my intended humor about the ubiquitous blacktop didn't come through appropriately, apparently.
Please feel free to edit my post(s) and replace @$$phalt with asphalt.

Anyways, in essence, I apologize for the bad language.
