Amazing images to the point of choking me up on some of them.

I'm disturbed with images that powerful and full of emotion that the editors/judges included a picture of a shrine of Amy Winehouse????W??T??F??

Between Amy and several other Photo's I thought "most powerful" is a little over the top. To each their own I guess.

Amazing photos, except Amy....
The one I thought was the best was the 7 month year old baby.
My heart skipped a beat... So sad.

Some good images and some not so good. I could care less about Winehouse. The natural disaster pics were pretty intense.

Is it probably that natural disasters give us some perspective of it all? Do they remind us how small we really are and how fragile life really is?

This... yeah felt the images were "most powerful" to the people that were directly involved. But, me on the outside looking in not so much.

I was very distressed by the pictures of law enforcement personnel pepper spraying peaceful protesters. That sh#% happens in Canada too so it appears that western culture has little to be proud of. Regarding the hate for Amy, I thought her voice was beautiful. It's sad that her demons cause so many to cast the first stone.:coffee:

Not to drag this down a political path, but you need to do some more research surrounding the events that lead to the pepper spraying incident at Davis. The so called "peaceful" protesters had surrounded a group of police who were detaining a number of people who had been arrested. They were demanding that the police free those they had arrested. There is ample video of the police issuing warnings to those that were blocking the exit route for the police indicating that if they did not move they would be subject to force. The police issued at least 3 warnings to those that were blocking the way of the police. The warnings were very clear and unambiguous, and it's clear from the actions and words of the protesters that they understood what they were being told. They chose to ignore those warnings and continue their unlawful actions.

We live in a society governed by the rule of law. When you look at the entire sequence of events it is very clear that the "peaceful" protesters were breaking the law (interfering with the police at a minimum, probably more). The job of the police is to enforce the laws. Sorry to say it, but the protesters deserved exactly what they got, and I hope they were all charged and hauled off to jail.

This is a perfect example of how the media distorts events.

I dont have HATE for Amy Wienhouse. I agree she had a very beautiful voice. It's just that she was a singer who was addicted to drugs and alcohol. I dont think she did that many things that were news worthy other than make good music and only a few albums to boot??

If it was a shrine outside someone who had a life long career in music like Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra or someone who had decades of hits and had touched millions of people with their music, I might under stand it making into the Top 45 images of the year.

No biggy, just my .02 cents. Maybe she was a bigger artist than I thought. I couldnt name one of her songs if you paid me to?

Lets face it, protesters getting pepper sprayed makes for good ratings. They didn't exactly cover the whole story at Davis, or many other places.

Amy had some talent. Like many others in the music business, the drugs ended their life too quickly. Erecting a shrine only glorifies the lifestyle that killed her. There are too many musicians that have died this way- Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Kobain, etc. We should say, what a waste, and move on.
