It's been almost two years since I posted to this. Life got busy and my priorities got a little screwed up. Time to pick this up again.

Here is a quick picture dump of what has happened over the last couple of years.

The Samurai got shorter. I still haven't gotten it stuck, but it drives much better and gets 28 mpg instead of 17.

Not all of the exploring was off road in the woods.

Visited the forest during a epic rain storm.

Did some stupid stuff.

You can see how deep the water was by the stains on the bottom of the trees.

There is still some of this in the forest even though that storm was almost a year ago.

The family circumnavigated Lake Superior in a old truck, toting a Alaskan camper, and on a boat. Not exactly a epic off road adventure, but an adventure none the less.

I went to Wisconsin, bought a 60 year old bus, that had been sitting for 12 years, and drove it 1000 miles home. That was an Adventure. That saga is here: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/your-trips-and-adventures/the-bus-thread-1956-ford-b-600-general-questions/109517/page1/

I managed to find a few places that are away from the hustle and bustle of life.

That brings us up to last weekend, which will be getting it's own post, like all these others should have.

I'll try to be better about keeping this updated in the future.

My goal is to get out and see something at least once a month. My soul needs that peace and quiet.

With that said...

Get out there and see something.

On to last weekend. Two years ago my eldest son and I climbed in the Jet Boat at the Hwy 52 landing on the Santee River and went in search of the last rock ledge and rapids on the river before it enters the Atlantic. If you go back a page or so, you will note that there was 3+ feet of water flowing across it at that time. Last Saturday, we went in search of it again.

Total trip was about 30 miles. Total time, about 4 hours.

The river levels were down substantially. Needless to say we found the ledge we were looking for, as well as 2 others.

It doesn't look like much to anyone that lives in three dimensional terrain, but to us flatlanders, it's like finding a mountain on the coast of South Carolina. We are the land of swamps and bogs. Mud and mosquitoes. Running water in nature is like a symphony to me. I fully plan to bring a cot back up here and take a nap while lulled to sleep by the sweet sounds of water. :sombrero:

Best of all, the Jet Boat would cross it. So we did that and headed further up river. The looks of envy by the 4 outboard powered boats was priceless.

Here is a short video of us crossing the last ledge. Everything you see under the water that is black, is rock.

The Jet Boat draws about 5-6 inches of water on a plane and slightly more sitting. We only hit rock a couple of times. Luckily, no damage was done to the boat other than scratched paint.

And another video coming back down the first ledge.

There are a large number of river only camping spots along the river. You can expect to see a river camping trip this fall, once the snakes and alligators go to sleep.

That's it for this trip.

Until next time, go see something.
