The best adventure travel boots.

Anybody have opinions on the Columbia bugaboot plus ii omni heat boots? Stupid name, and way too long and complicated, but they have a lot of really great reviews, and were rated at the top of the list by a website that did some pretty extreme boot tests with several of the top brands. They are very reasonably priced when it comes to boots, and completely waterproof..so they say. Anybody have a pair they can provide feedback on? Looking to ditch my other 5 pairs of boots I don't wear, and get this one and use it exclusively for winter driving, hiking, walking around, etc.

Its a shame they don't have a rebuildable soul on Asolos. The leathers last forever, so you end up throwing away a perfectly good boot because the bottoms wore through.

Just want to know why you say they can't be re-soled, I was always under the impression that there were a few companies out there that would do it. I'm pretty sure I've seen a pair or 2 that have gone through the process.

Thanks for the feed back. Only issue I see, is they don't come in all sizes. Seems odd to me, but I can only find them in certain sizes. Some reviewers say to definitely get a half size larger because the boots run small. Other reviewers say the boots are true to size. Any thoughts on this? Nobody local to me carries them ,so I have to order them.

I got true to size and they fit. I ordered my boots from sears Canada. They had all sizes in stock. I like them so much that im getting the real tree pair for moose and duck hunting this fall!

I found a pair at Cabelas today, the only place local I could find them. I tried on a true to size pair, 10.5. Length wise, perfect. Width wise, really snug with even regular socks. I foresee issues if I were wearing thick wool socks. However, if I were to go with a half size bigger, the length would be too long. I'm assuming these break in over time and are a little more comfortable on the sides to allow for wool socks? Super comfortable and light weight..I liked them a lot.

Back in the mid 90's I had a pair of Danner's that held up pretty good, only issue was the gortex failing and the boot leaking besides that they were comfortable and lasted a long time. When my foot grew and I retired the danners I decided to try a pair of Asolo's and ended up being very impressed. I used those until the sole were almost gone (probably 6-8 years), that and drying them to close to the fire is what ultimately took them and by drying them I mean melting. I was in the market for a new pair of hevy hiking shoes and tried a pair of REI branded boots. They fit pretty good but the harder sole and minimal padding would make feet ache and I just couldn't get my feet use to them. REI's exchange policy was fantastic and I ended up going back to good old reliable Asolo's.

As far as day hikers go, Keens are very comfy on my feet but I cant get them to last more then about 6 months. The padding in the heel keeps blowing out. Merrells are second on that list and only last a month or so longer. Salmons gave me descent results and I could get about a year of heavy use out of them. Most of these day hikers I would wear for everyday use and got tired of spending $100 for a pair of shoes that would last me less then a year. I finally stumbled on to Clarks, granted there not hiking shoes but these shoes are fantastic, 2 years and going strong.

Have you considered the Danner Tachyon? To my knowledge it's the most minimalist boot in existence. When I'm not rucking under a load it's my go to boot. Perfect for overlanding IMO.
I never heard of them. hmmmmm
I already have a pair of Belleville's Mini-Mil and they almost work. They're not really a 14 and not long enough for my right foot and they're made for fat feet, not wide feet, so my feet sorta swim in them.
Belleville came close but missed.

I wonder if there's some place I can try on the Danners. The sole looks promising but it looks like it has a drop. Also laces pretty far up the toe...

For a summer boot, I am looking hard at the hi-tec gore tex. Less expensive than most but from people who have them very comfortable.

what the genral consensus on hi tech? They seem to be coming around and being more ( dare i say) main stream with thier products. They always gave off a payless shoe store vibe to me. The look like they have some nice designs out for a nice price.

hi-tec have been around for ever. I used to think budget garbage when I was young. But, since I have been doing some reading, they have a very big following.

This happened to mine, had em for 12 years and the outsoles were done and peeling off.

Just bought a pair of Danner Mountain Light II, liking them so far but havent really had them on a longer hike, just trying to get them broken in
