The design as we go M-101A1 Trailer build

I wish I could build trailers as fast as I can build cabinets. This is the rough in of the kitchen pullout. Don't mind the ugly brown as it came from my 1984 Coleman Redwood popup and since I hate throwing things away I figured lets put them to good use. Just another one of those situations that I had 3/4 of a 4x8 sheet of grey melamine and after maximizing the cut schedule to be able to use all of it without needing more...what do you know the sink and stove fit in my open dimensions without even pre measuring the sink or the stove. I figured I'd get them to work somehow but exact drop ins? It doesn't get any better than that. Anyway. Ill enamel paint the ugly brown away and see if I can work the 3 small leftover pieces of melamine as dividers in the storage compartments

Looks nice I wish I had your cabinet skills. Still need to do my drawers in the teardrop

Thanks. I can teach you in a day. It's super easy and most plywood supply can cut exact dimensions for you so that you can just assemble them. There are a ton of drawer companies and although maybe a little pricey you can give dimensions to Rockler Woodworking and they have them in about 2-3 weeks. Saves a lot of headache...as long as your dimensions are spot on

Spent the morning talking to my sheet metal guy and he just said he was a little too busy at the moment to do my bends. I told him I'd do all the brain work marking and calculating angles and within 30 minutes I had all my bends done. Well not all. There's still a few but the majority is done.

Got the coffin lid on and mounted and it's rigid as all hell now. This was a lot easier than I thought. I worked from the middle out with the tape and cut a 1/2" section of tape out in the middle so the backing wouldn't get stuck once it bonded in other sections. Without the lid skin on I was 3/16" out of square from front to back on my lid framing so I has to clamp everything to the lower section, square everything up and then mount. There is absolutely no lateral movement from this tape so once I removed the squaring clamps the lid stayed square as can be. Again time will tell with this tape but good ol USA 3M tapes has me a believer!

Was able to get the rear diamond plate bent as well. Tail lights will go in here and since they'll basically be access panels and essentially outside the box for lack of a better term I don't have to worry too much about water intrusion. They will most likely be a mix of rivets and screws so I can remove and replace as needed to access any of the wiring and shower plumbing.

Ha silvr. No doubt. I'm about to start a big cabinet job here so I'm working feverishly because that will suck time away from the trailer. The clock is ticking here too as I need to get it up to Seattle in April. I'm down for a red rocks trip if you want to connect. My friends have been climbing there all weekend and not much can get my mind off climbing but this trailer certainly has me diverted

There is a cool little 4x4 pass in red rock that drops you over the other side. Still recovering on the wrist injury no climbing for me.

This mornings agenda....hmm what can I do with my pop up door frame?
It's nice when things are essentially made for you so pop a few rivets here and there...chop some 45 deg angles here and there. Bust out the square a bunch of times and hello...you have a semi homemade window. Had to navigate the cuts around that door handle hole at the bottom. Almost screwed up and cut that to size were the door handle would have been right at a corner. So now just have to come up with a cool handle that works in that spot.

The acrylic I had fit perfectly of course and among other things guess what else I found out today...

Yup that magic 34 1/8" is the exact width of harbor freights tongue box. So now the tongue box can protect the window. Not really a big deal since it's acrylic but just nice to not have to worry too much about replacing glass. You can't beat a tongue box for less than 100.00 with the 20% coupon. Unfortunately I missed the sale this presidents weekend but another one will come along again soon.

For some reason this door is probably one of my more favorite parts of this build
