THE LAST CAMPING TRIP

hi guys drove the rover up to northern sierra Nevada mountains. it was awesome to get away from 100 degree heat.. in Mojave i met this cool couple driving the Subaru engine powered vw buss to Argentina , we did some awesome hiking in golden trout wilderness. did see a bear, :) got 6 fish from kern river ,

unfortunately this will be my range rovers last expedition , my travel friends and i decided that we need a vehicle with at least 120 inch wheel base ,so we can build a sleeping platform inside it, defender 130 will be on its way soon , and before that i will use one of my H1s, we have big plans for coming defender 130 :)

so my rover will go on ebay this week with no reserve , and expectations,

we enjoyed her for the passed 4 years and its time for 130 now.

And who's going to be the lucky owner of the Red Rover?

rover will go on eBay hopefully to a good home. She was a gr8 friend for the passed 4 years . And I will miss her . I just wish from the beginning i would of got 130 and done 6.2 in that. But it's never to late =)

You won't regret your decision.

How do you all with 130's find the off road maneuverability in tight tracks? Ever have problems with high centering it? They have the same wheelbase as a Suburban after all. I'm interested because I have my eye on a Jeep J10 truck with the 130 inch wheelbase, and am thinking of building it into a camping rig with a RTT tent in the bed, drawers, etc. It's wider than the LR at 68 inches, but has a good 45 degree approach angle. The rear overhang is worse than the Defender though. I'm most worried about the high centering issue. . .

David the reason i choose defender 130 is because the benefit of that 130 inch wheel base will be more than the down side . yes may be few tight spots it will have hard time, but in other ways it will be beneficial since most of the overland travel is not much hard core off-road. i never had problem with off road maneuverability.with my hummers 130 inch wheel base but it also has much higher ground clearance. . about a year ago i was on very hard trail with my rover and this ford long bed f350 was right after me with no problem. i was really surprised. how he maneuvered.

With the J10 I think the turning radius isn't as good as the other Jeep vehicles. I don't have any specs in front of me but see how right she turns before you buy her. If a three point turn on a two lane road takes 4-5 you may be slowed down by alot of switchbacks but the J10 has seen a lotta trails.

The J10 LWB has a 45 foot turning circle, which really isn't too bad for the size of the truck, tighter than most other regular cab long beds, I think. The Defender 130 has a 49 foot turning circle by comparison. I think that in all but the toughest terrain it would be all right, and will beat the swb vehicles on a lot of rock climbs. The J10 is also much narrower than most other full size trucks. My nephew had a J20 with 6 inch lift and 37 inch HMMWV tires and the only thing he couldn't do without body damage was tight forest trails. Outclimbed everything else on rockfalls, ledges, etc.
