Well I lurk on this board often and decided it was time to post. Some of you will know my antics from the wire.

So I have a 1989 Montero that I bought from Phil. It was Betsy 3. Now for the fun.

It started like this

After a couple years or so I was bored with power tools around. I cut the truck down into a 4 door with a small box.

Now in the last week I was bored again and decided to shed more weight. And this is what happened.

Thanks for looking.

A pajero tray top! Now why didnt the japs think of that?

Even a standard monty pickup would have been a big hit. :wings:

Well to dig up a very old thread is always fun. I thought I should update the work on the truck someday and today is that day.

I did get the cab finished just in time to move away from Calgary, however I didn't get to bring the old girl with me at first. I put it in storage for quite a while actually. But it turned out pretty well.

Then paint.

Shortly after this I decided to uproot and move to the great white north. Yellowknife NWT. I put the truck in storage and left it for quite sometime. Eventually I missed it and brought it up with me where I enjoyed it. Of course at some point more work was needed and it started all over again.

In Yellowknife

I'll put more info together later with an update ending with the results and parts I'm using now.

Its great to be working on the old girl again and getting it to where I would like.

Eric.

The reason why I cut the truck up was rust. Everything from under the rear doors back was rusted out. Holes in the rockers, floor, fenders and rear corners. The bed liner paint was all that was holding it together. My original plan was to cut the truck down and later build a camping box for the back. This is just how it will be in the meantime. I’d like to find another one someday and have a nice 4 door again, but they were never available in Canada.

Here’s pretty much the latest on the truck. This will be reworked a bit as time goes on to accommodate a camping box. Keeping in mind that I have at moments abused the truck and my other truck adding protection is an important addition the truck. One day it will be on its side or worse.

Sorry that some of the pictures are poor. I never bring the decent camera with me. Once I get it outside I will take some better ones.

Like what you have done with it. I hate to see the monty cut up as I love the 4doors but this looks cool.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Awesome, makes me need another truggy. I might even have a line on a cheap Gen 1 LWB with a perfectly good rust free body. Good to see an update.
