The more important locker!

Well the decision has been made for me. My ring gear in the rear is damaged, probably from my activities last weekend, and will need to be replaced.

Is there any way to place liability on the shop that screwed up my axle seals last week? I didn't notice the fluid had all but leaked out until I was airing back up. It was almost a quart low.... wheeling all day long, after a little while on the highway. At this point, they have replaced my axle shafts, brakes, and seals, but I'm still pissy!

I would certainly expect to have it replaced. I would think that if the teeth show any wear they would be held responsible. You may ask them nicely to replace it. If they do not maybe you could ask for them to split the cost of the new gears. It would be cheaper to fix this while it is out at this time. Just my thoughts.

I told them to button it up and not to touch it any more. I will get it over to Baertrax and have it fixed. I may change gearsets and have both lockers put in. We will see. I was not expecting to do this yet, and the money isn't exactly there. I hate to put this kind of thing on a credit line, even if it is short term.

Wow, that stinks.

If the wear is attributed to the loss in fluid, they should be responsible. That's really too bad.

On the bright side, new gears and lockers would be sweet!

Tim and Kelsey get lost..
I went through this with my gears. The shop screwed them up. I went back once to have them try to fix it. When they tried and it was still messed up I took it to another shop to have it done properly. I had them take pictures and notes on what was done incorrectly and presented it to the owner of the first shop. He re-imbursed me the cost of the redo.
You may want to look into that.

I hate to hear of that sort of thing happening. I had something similar with my old Tacoma except I was in Arizona when I noticed it was leaking, luckily I caught it before it messed anything up. I'd had the seals replaced by a local "rear end specialist" who came recommended and who I know sets up lot of the local race cars. I drove out to Flagstaff the next week and was checking over my truck when I discovered the leaking seal. I had the Toyota dealer in Flagstaff fix it for me as they had the seal in stock, I had only basic tools with me, there was snow on the ground and I needed the truck. When I got home I presented the guy who'd done the work with the Toyota dealer's receipt to see if we could work something out and he told me tough luck. Needless to say I tell anyone who asks about him of my experience.
