The Noob Trailer build

I like the basket idea. If you could score more expanded metal I would suggest filling in the sides too.
Nice build with great ideas.

It seems like forever since I did anything with this build. I haven't forgotten, but I have been crazy busy. Life happens.

But I finally got back to it a little bit. I added fenders, and a hold open lock for the tailgate. I also added adapters so that I can run matching pattern wheels for my 4Runner and my wife's chevy.

Today I added a spare tire mount to the tailgate. I only had the morning today. But I had a couple hours to squeeze in...

Looking good Forsie. I built one similar several years ago and it's still going strong. I've got one question though. I like the support catch when the tailgate is closed but when you open it the side wall looks like it could flex a bit from the weight of the gate/spare. You getting any flex?

Keep up the slow but good work. :D

Thanks man!

The sides are braced on the inside on both sides. So the weight of the gate is supported.

Honestly this build has been super educational for me. There are a ton of things that I would never have thought of before actually having to problem solve them. Admittedly that means there are a good number of things I might do differently next time. But overall I like the way I think it will turn out.

Hey Forsie, I went back and looked at the pics again and saw the internal bracing. The pic above showing the spare wheel hides it so didn't see it. Looks like you've got it sorted. ;)

I hear you re' working things out as you go, that's why most of us don't stop at doing things once.

Finally have a little real progress on his beast.

Tailgate latch. Locks closed and open. Way more secure than my previous solution.

And got about half of the sheet metal on. Went with 14ga, and I'm thinkin it was pretty overkill.

Nice work man. You must have really paid attention while perusing the build threads! I can't wait to see it rolling/camping.
