When I was at college a couple of the Mfg & ME guys wanted to build their own wet-wet water heater for an on-board shower. Doing the math showed that the surface area required was surprisingnly large given the temps & flow rates involved.Shovel said:I know a wet-wet heat exchanger is neato & all....
but couldn't you just run a few tight curls of copper pipe around your exhaust downpipe and pump the water through that?
Exhaust temp being higher would reduce the surface area requirement, but IMHO not enough to be all that practical.
On the other hand, last weekend I got a demostration of how well the sled driver's exhaust mounted food warmer works. Very well I might add. The particular unit was all SS construction.
