We (Expedition Portal/Overland Journal) are getting really excited as we will be there this year and provide a lot of coverage for our members!

Is anyone else going? And for those who have been before, any hints on what to do/see?

Here are some pictures from last years:

If possible I would recommend you guys set up camp at one of the camping areas. Walking around there is just as interesting as the expo area itself. Be there early to get a good spot.
Also bring at least two day for the show alone. There is a lot of stuff to see and many very knowledgeable people to talk to.

Have fun!

Having been there before I can tell you that the campgrounds (there was 5 when I was there) are just as interesting if not more so than the show itself.
You really need 2-3 days to see it all..
1st day just to walk around (a couple of hours to walk the entire show) and collect literature.
2nd day to go back to the booths and talk to the people worth spending time with
3rd day to enjoy the campgrounds and see how everyone sets up their rigs & campsites

or divide your day among show & campgrounds each day

Everyone was super nice to me as a visiting US person and plenty of English was spoken to get me by

Have a great time and please talk all the pics you can

Fabelhaft! Are you traveling with any USA vehicles (AEV Brute, AV Habitat, GXV, for example) to introduce to European overlanders?

Be sure to leave a little time to sight-see and take the waters in Bad Kissingen.

This is the second year I've planned to go, but a new baby put a stop to that. Last year my travel companion's economy took a hit when he bought an (overlanding) vehicle. But next year...

That's great that you guys are going.

It would be nice if you could focus on some of the things that we can do here in NA. It is always fun to dream of the unattainable, but it would be interesting to get some ideas for things that we can do here.

I'll be there mooching and drooling.

Last time we were there we were admiring a MAN 6x6 with a million Euro price tag. The following day it had a 'Sold' sign in the window...

only a couple days left...I'll be driving up from Paris in my expedition vehicle - most likely a Renault Twingo or similar exciting rental car...
I should be easy to spot, I'll have the full Overland Journal/Expedition Portal attire...

:)

Is there a good place to hang out on Friday/Saturday evening for a drink after the show? We could all meet up somewhere.

Hey Christian,

I am very jealous. I too was trying to get over there this year. Too much in the way this year. I went last year and had a terrific time. As Lance said, the show is simply amazing.

Stop by Trekk 4x4 Adventure and say hi to Rudy Thoelen for me. Find Cobus Opperman of National Luna, at the Trekk booth, and tell him "Paul May says you should buy me a beer". I bet you recognize some of the Trekk graphics too.

I look forward to reading more about your adventure.

cheers,

Well guys, some bad news - I am unable to leave tonight, still stuck at work in Paris. Plus apparently it is raining a lot right now in frankfurt.

I will leave tomorrow night and be there Friday.

I'm bummed I'm missing this. I've been in London all week drooling over campers and other "Expo" vehicles but have to head back to The States tomorrow (first day of show). Would've been a nice trip on the train. Please take lots of pics.
