It sounds like you and Katie have been on such an incredible journey already! Building a new adventure vehicle, working hard, saving up, and welcoming your baby girl, Aurora what a busy and exciting time for your family. It's amazing to see the dedication you've put into preparing for your next adventure, and it really seems like all that hard work will pay off beautifully. Having that sense of purpose and commitment makes the journey itself even more special, and it’s inspiring to hear how much you’ve invested in making your travel dreams come true.
I can relate to the feeling of getting back into travel after some time away. I recently visited Kauai, Hawaii, and it was an unforgettable experience that truly refreshed my spirit. Kauai is filled with lush landscapes, serene beaches, and an incredible variety of wildlife, especially birds. The island feels like a hidden paradise, where I spent hours just exploring, soaking in the views, and watching the colorful birds that are unique to Hawaii (https://hawaiiislandkauai.com/). The memories I made there reminded me of why I love traveling, and how each trip offers something new to learn and appreciate.
Wishing you, Katie, and little Aurora an amazing journey ahead! There’s nothing like exploring the world with family by your side, and I have no doubt that your upcoming adventure will bring you all closer together and create memories that last a lifetime.

Hi Everyone,
Iceland is utterly incredible, and we spent time exploring the Westfijords - a slightly more remote and less visited part of the country.
The F622 is one of Iceland's most well known 4x4 tracks - literally built into the side of a mountain before dropping down below the high tide line for a section right down by the crashing ocean.
The views are stunning
I also just finished editing a YouTube video about the track, really showing off the stunning mountains and cliff side landscapes.

Amazing. En route to the airport now, though we only have 4 days and aren't doing anything "remotely" similar. I'd love to, though. Maybe another time. We are doing standard tourist stuff

Saw the lava flows and eruptions as we were on approach to Keflavik airport, and again as we drove towards Reykjavik. We did end up renting a car and driving. Unfortunately the road was closed leading off to that way and we couldn't get too close. Only those with press passes, it seems.
Mountain range off to the left as we headed to Thingviller NP was breathtaking. So was the temp in teens with high sustained winds and wind chill of barely a number.
Rugged landscape abound - lots of columnar basalt cliffs at the tectonic plate ridge.
Saw a big, giant, faded red overland vehicle parked outside of Lindin restaurant in Laugarvatn but no idea who it was. Nice restaurant with an old school LR parked out front as a sort of signage. Clear view of Hekla volcano (quiet the last several years) across the bay. Met with Baldor the owner of the restaurant, who was accommodating and spent time chatting with us about his daily driver OG VW Anarok and his dog.

One thing I noticed while driving in Iceland...a seemingly over abundance of Toyota Land Cruisers. Never seen so many per capita, while seeing so few 4Runners. Given most other vehicles on the island are so small and economical, I would have thought it would be the other way around.
I was even surprised to see a few K2 generation GMC Sierras, WJ Jeep Grand Cherokees and such. Loved seeing the modified Mercedes transit Van's all done up with lifts and tall tires and the giant trucks used for the glacier expeditions.

We spent a a few weeks exploring high and low around the Westfijords, a stunning part of the country that few manage to explore. If you have more than a couple of weeks in Iceland, I highly recommend you check it out. We found dozens of wild and remote hot springs, monster waterfalls, mountains, hiking and of course stunning coastline
I also put together this video showcasing our time in the Westfijords, including driving to literally the end of roads on an extremely remote and rugged track right down on the ocean. We went hours without seeing another vehicle, quite rare in Iceland.
