The Scout is back

I will not be going electric any time soon.

Have you driven anything electric? Leaving aside all the various arguments about cost, environment, charge times, etc that always come up I’d take an electric drivetrain over ICE all day. It’s an objectively superior solution to vehicle propulsion.

Not as of yet! The reasons you list, are just the surface issues. While there may come a time, I don't want something burning down my house, just to get it charged.
The way EV's are being pushed, is more about control to me! Why aren't the powers that be letting other alternatives develop. I.E. Hydrogen. Even Toyota has put significant development into hydrogen.

Scouts of the past were stripped down, utilitarian, simple and rugged. These new EVs with a starting price of $50000 doesn't even come close to the original. While there are some limited benefits to EV, they do not apply when utilitarian, simple and rugged are major benefits over complex, fragile and fancy.
If a manufacturer wants to make a killing in the US with great sales and a cult like following, build something akin to the Jimny. There are a lot of us who would be thrilled rowing gears through a small, reliable vehicle with solid axles and lockout hubs.

In reality the amount of folks that would buy something like a jimny are so small, the cost would be very high due to a lack of scale

Leaving aside all the various arguments is the only way they can be considered. That's how some bias the discussion, ICE propulsion and it's existing infrastructure has to be ignored for EV's to look "good."

Yeah…no. Thats just an easy way to say let’s talk about the actual drivetrain and not the ancillary stuff. It has nothing to do with biasing.

I don’t think that’s true, looking good means different things to different people. I’d love to never again have to hassle with oil changes and crap like that.

I find it slightly interesting. The model with the generator would be my choice. It's at least peeking my curiosity.

Same goes for me. I'm trying to justify buying my mom an EV just because I'm tired of working on her high mileage Lexus 🤣

At least the new Scout looks good. The Scout was probably my least favorite International truck so that might swing my opinion some too.
