I love the front seats in my VW westy. They are firm , give good back support and generally rock.
The express van seat makes driving more than 5 hours a pretty brutal task for my low back. For one thing, the seat portion on the express is 20 inches long. The westfalia seat is only 17 inches long.
I do not need support all the way to my knees and I find this extra three inches just gets in the way. The big thing though is , that the seat is just not firm enough with not enough lumbar support.
I know I can spend a couple grand and get a really nice Recaro seat but I think it would be more fun to put in a nice set of luxury seats from a sports car or something. I did this in the 90s for an old postal jeep and the results were fantastic. It took many hours wandering junk yards to find the right fit though and I am hoping someone else has done some of this legwork already.
