THE toliet/shower dilemma

dzzz

Let's face reality. The primary reason the toliet/shower room takes up all that valuable space in a medium size camper is women. Most women are agreeable to going anywhere that has a toilet with a door that closes. There are certainly women who are as casual about these things as men. And a couple will of course chose whatever style suits them: Maybe pooping in the bushes, or perhaps a spa that takes up 75% of the camper.
My goal is building a camper that will work for the next ten years. I'm single after my girlfriend died of cancer last year (part of my motivation to travel). I have late teen and early twenty age daughters. I have women problems - just not the kind with the accompanying benefits.
When choosing the cab for the camper I've flipped flopped between two seats or a crew cab with four. I've finally settled on the crew cab, realizing the camper doesn't have to sleep four. I can pull a trailer.
Today I've realized I could pull a trailer that includes a halfway decent toliet/shower room. It could even be a module that slides off the trailer. (Yes, I know that describes a standard portable toliet. hmmmm).
It might not be pulled much, but it would be ideal for larger outings.
This makes me happy. I can build guilt free. All I need personally is a slide out porta-potty, an outside shower, and enough room to store the beer.

Have fun with the search/build! For my wife I am going to add an onboard shower on the 4X4 and just pack a "room"

My wife likes the shower & toilet as well, I purchased an R&M Hot Water Shower thats going onto the new project, a PETT toilet, and a roomy freestanding shower stall/bathroom enclosure for campsites. For a day run I simply have a pop up "bathroom" to put the PETT toilet in for quick stops, cause when she's not happy, nobodys happy!

I think this falls into what I call the living AROUND the camper or living IN the camper.

Having a toilet/shower pretty much dictates a full size truck platform or something very close to it.

If you can do without I think you can get by with something as small as a long wheelbase Samurai.

I have the girl problems too, but I have to admit after about 3 days of camping without a shower/toilet/perfect weather I am ready to have something else to work from. Its not the good sunny nice days that get you living AROUND the camper its the rainy, windy, dusty, snowing, cold type days.

I am still convinced that with the proper packaging and construction that a fully live IN the camper is possible with a cab high platform on a full size truck. Its just going to take some good design and ingenuity to package everything and make it usable. If you look at my Unimog camper ideas you can see how much stuff I was able to pack in that box.

I think the secret is a hard side pop up / fold out style system. Its just a matter of getting it simple enough so it can be durable in the long haul.

Best of luck!
