The Transformation of my FZJ80

Several weeks ago I brought home a 1996 FZJ80 with about 194000 on the clock. It's a relatively well-cared for truck with a little bit of typical New England rust. Really, the body is nearly rust free, with only a couple small spots on the tailgate. There is a little on the rear crossmember and receiver hitch, as the PO used it to tow his boat, and I suspect he dipped the back end into the Atlantic many times over the 15 years he had it. And underneath, there are all the typical rusted fasteners. But I'll get that sorted eventually. It's got factory lockers too. Stoked about that.

Here is the day we brought it home. Swapping plates in the PO's driveway:

Putting it to work:

Time for the running boards to go:

And the rear spoiler:

And the flares...:

And new wheels and tires:

Still need to clean up around the holes left by the flares, and dig into the underside. Long term plans include a winch installed behind the stock front bumper, a spare tire swingout (maybe on the stock bumper, maybe an aftermarket one), OME springs (thinking stock height replacements), and a roof rack of some sort. I'm going to keep it simple and affordable. I drive it everyday, so it needs to be good transportation that is ready for an adventure. Anyway, that's it so far.

Thanks. They are Wheel Vintiques 12 Series wheels. 16x8 with 4" back spacing and 13mm of positive offset. Tires are General Grabber AT2 in 285/75-16. They sit a little outside the wheel wells without the flares. I think I'm okay with it. The flares had to come off anyway, because they were cracking and the hardware was super corroded. I think another year, and that corrosion would have carried over to the body.
