The working - camping OBS F-350

I think i missed something somewhere....what locker did you end up with?

Detroit. I learned that I could buy one from a shop that I've done business with for years. It was nice to have a face to face purchase. As a bonus I have a real storefront and person that I personally know if I have problems.

Right on! In person I agree is best - its a shame so many places are going away from that to cut cost. Great news you like it so much! Might make me rethink a few things.

I started out with this....

It became worth too much money and I recently sold it and purchased this....

No regrets. So it leaves me still with this....!

So I’m looking at the things I would like to do to this old truck. I’m looking for inputs and opinions. To get you up to speed on the truck so you don’t have to re-read the thread: it’s a 97 F-350. 460. 5spd. 4.10 gears. Detroit Locker in the rear. About 2” of lift. Pretty much everything on the truck is new, or rebuilt. It’s a great truck. I drive it every single day and would literally drive it anywhere.

I’d like to do 4” of lift. I’m thinking a shackle reversal kit and 35’s. Maybe a tru-trac in the front. So who’s the manufacturer to use on the SRK? Sky? PMF? Is there another? Thanks guys!

The big rubber and taller final ration is certainly working against you with regards to EGTs
These motors like revs to keep the EGTs down.

Unless you plan on re-gearing, intercooler and a conservative tune should do it.

Having an OBS 7.3 myself, it always amazes me that so many people seem to tow REAL heavy with them without melt-down.
I can peg the EGT gauge pretty easily, even when 100% stock. Perhaps they really are that tough (y)
Thanks! Are you running stock leaves with it or custom?

I am running the super duty springs that sky’s recommends. Their rsk and those springs give me a 4” lift.

I use the PMF 2.5 rsk. I've had a good experience with the kit, very easy to install and tucked up nice so is not very noticable. I did superduty axles front and rear, and used stock springs from the superduty. The front is the x code springs so I was able to fit 35's with no issues, and the rear needed a 4" block to sit level.

Man….life happened! No….covid happened. Life got retarded and I wouldn’t know where to begin. So I’ll try, if there’s even anyone on this app that even remembers this thread. If not- I’ve wasted time on far worse things.

Around 2019 I started a deer feed company with my best friend. It took off and life got stupid hectic. I got out of the trucking business. I sold my farm. I bought a farm. I built a house. I sold my deer feed company (well, my ownership in it). And now I just have a mess of momma cows. Camping,,,,,,what’s that? lol! For about the last 7 years here’s been so much happening and I’m tired. But I believe it’s going to slow down now. I hope. So anyway, that’s kinda why I quit posting. And back to the truck……..

I accidentally sold the old 97’. When someone tries to buy a truck you’ve built and you don’t want to sell it- so you think you’ll be cute and price it for more than you think they’d be willing to pay…..you better be prepared to let it go. Because that’s exactly what I did. I thought my price would turn him off. But, no. Great guy bought it, and I’ve become good friends with him. That was about 3 years ago.

I almost immediately ran across a new project. A 1996 F-250. Just a regular cab truck. XL package. 351 and an auto. Only had 100,500 miles on it. Didn’t run the day I went and looked at it. And it hadn’t ran for quite a while.

I’m gonna do a few posts and see what happens. Why not? So I got the 96 home and started to work. The really short version is that it needed two fuel tanks and two fuel pumps. So I did what I do and ordered a factory replacement for the front and a 38 gallon aftermarket for the rear.

Then I did a custom leveling kit for the front. I used some 2” mini packs for a leaf spring super duty. I used a set of Tuff Country drop pivot brackets. They have adjustable cams so I can set the camber nice. Added some fender flares a set of tires and did a major cleaning.
