Pardon my ignorance, but I don't see where/how the sleeping area works...assuming its the narrow gap in the storage space and you sleep on top of the storage box that holds the stove/sink/etc?

No worries, I can see where this could be confusing. The platform is 78" long and 48" wide, enough to sleep two adults. The loft, what you're calling the storage space has been designed to be high enough to allow 3-4" pad with a sleeping bag - there's enough room under the loft for legs to slide underneath with a foot well on the other side. The loft just goes over the shins of the sleepers.
