Think I've found my Hundy only it's a Lexus

I've been looking and looking and while I preferred the Land Cruiser moniker the LX trucks are more common and no more expensive. They also, in general, seem to be taken better care of (read: no off road).

I found a gold 2002 LX at a Lexus dealership a couple hundred miles away that's a one owner, non-smoker rig with all scheduled service done by Lexus slightly ahead of schedule. It has 67.5k miles and the price is $23.6k. The dealership is running it up to me for a $200 delivery charge where I'll inspect and drive it. If it looks good, I'll give them my check. If not, I'm out $200 but saved a 500 mile round trip. I'm hoping it works out. Fair but not screaming deal. Has both master keys as well as valet key.

I plan to use it for camping and back country use but it will more than likely remain bone stock. They're said to be quite capable in that config especially for people like me who don't push the envelope.

Hope the weather is OK between Salt Lake and here tomorrow!!

Good luck. Sounds like a nice one. Price seems fair if it is in good condition.

For comparison:

I just bought an 03 LC for $21500 with 108k, Slee ARB 1036 lift kit, Gt seat covers, weather tech mats, African outback load bars, 16 and 18" rims, new BFG AT's on the 16's and all maintenance and records up to date. I thought that was pretty fair.

Post up some pics if you buy it.

I looked at a lot of duds first and I happened to come across a sympathetic seller that wanted his Hundy to go to a good home.

I found the LX's went for a bit more. At least in this area so I don't think you're doing to bad if it is in really good shape.

Looked at the dealer photo slide-show, looks like a very nice specimen.

I'm always willing to pay more for a nice, clean, well maintained unit. Hard to argue with relatively low miles and 'Bone Stock'. I understand the appeal to buy a 'Land Cruiser' instead of a Lexus, but I think I would consider a Lexus too for the same reasons you stated.

I would buy it.

Yes, AHC is standard on a 2002 Lexus along with the Mark Levinson stereo. Honestly, I'd prefer not to have it but there you are.

Why? AHC is new to me and I'm really starting to like the flexibility of the system. The Mark Levinson stereo is something I would really like.

I can't point to anyone having AHC failures but I wonder if it is "Dan" proof? :coffeedrink:. The complexity would make me nervous given how and where I take my rig.

Although I personally haven't heard the ML sound system in the LX I have read reports of sonic let-down. Certainly can't say that about the ML hi-fi home systems I've tested!

My biggest concern with the AHC is cost to repair when the time comes. As far as the ML stereo, I'm sure it's at least as good as the stereo in my GMC pickup. I'm not overly fussy there.

I am buying one of these for camping and back country travels though, not trail running or "wheelin'".

With that said if one has AHC they cant overland with you?:sombrero:

I do understand your point about the complexity but I was also worried about complexity back in '86 when I went with FI in our converted 60. After 176K miles I dont worry anymore. Time always tells the true story.

So far I have not seen anyone really push AHC to say its all that bad offroad. Slee ran it for a while and I dont remember any problems. I have seen some of the problem associated with AHC and once the system raises its ugly head I will rip it all off but for now someone needs to see what it can do.

I plan on running the AHC until it goes bad on me. I will let you know how it handles ARB bumpers and gear after the new year when I get come cash to add on said mods : )

Worst case you can always add an OME suspension later. I wouldn't have any hesitation buying another LX. In fact it is still on the list of future rigs, as I shouldn't have sold the last one. If you want more feedback check the the 100-series section on IH8MUD.com.

I'm considering selling my 02 LX470, I'd like to get around $20k. 106k miles, Arb/Kaymar bumpers, Old Man Emu Heavy Duty Suspension, jerry can carrier, Magnaflow Exhaust, chrome has been blacked out.

I plan to be in Park City between Christmas and New Years if you want to see in person. email me at jmarlo@hkclaw.com thanks!
